UCW observe baking
At 7 p.m. on Dec. 13 the UCW
met at the Sunday School room.
Margaret Bakker opened the
meeting with two Christmas
readings. The second was by
Shelley M. Haist, She wrote on her
likes and dislikes for the Christmas
season. As roll call the members
then gave their opinions. Almost
everyone particularly appreciated
the family gatherings.
Everyone then went to the
kitchen and watched Trudy
Sturzenegger turn a lump of yeast
dough into one twist and one braid.
It looked very easy with Trudy
doing it.
Maxine Seers made pastry. We
should all be able to make extra
good pies as we now know her
recipe. Maxine demonstrated a
different and simpler way of
handling it. Fillings for a cherry
and blueberry pie had been pre
cooked and two pies went into the
oven.

made. Tina Empey assisted Maxine
in the preparation of this.
The UCW returned to the Sunday.
School room and sat at a table
beautifully decorated with
poinsettia serviette servers and
place cards with a pie recipe
enclosed.
Marg Bakker showed how to
make the poinsettias. Laura Mae
Chamney led in the singing of
grace.
Members were then served a
delicious piece of one of the freshly
baked pies. There was coffee, tea or
lemonade to go with it.
Two members who have been
with the UCW for years and are
still actively involved have
December birthdays and were
given a pie to take home as a gift.
Needless to say these will be
thoroughly enjoyed.
Jean Plaetzer and Kay Lapp
thanked the UCW and particularly
the super bakers. Pies do not just
make themselves.
WI’s Archambault gets pinned
Before the potluck dinner on
Dec. 16 pictures were taken by
photographer and members, of our
90-year-old member Martha Daer.
The pictures were taken in front of
the beautifully decorated Christmas
. stage. Some snaps were alone and
some with WI president Betty
Archambault and Lois Elliott and
also with her daughter Ruth who

Auburn has been aglow with
Christmas lights which are enjoyed
by everyone. The Lions Club
named the winners for the lovely
homes: first prize, Gerald and Carol
McDowell; second, Sandy and
Shirley Andrews; third, Rick and
Cynthia Baechler; honourable
Knox service
Musical prelude with Nancy Park
organist welcomed all to the
service at Knox United Church,
Auburn on Dec. 19.
Rev. Paul Ross had one of the
children light the Advent Candle
and music was enjoyed from the
junior and senior choirs.

Before dinner the Opening Ode,
Mary Stewart Collect and Grace
were given. A delicious
smorgasbord potluck dinner was
enjoyed by everyone. Carol singing
followed the meal with Laura Mae
Chamney, pianist and Betty

The Lions also had an excellent
turnout on children’s night, to the
readings were given by Betty, Tina
Empey and the guest Lois Elliott.
Later Lois pinned a special WI
pin on Betty who has capably held
various WI positions through the
years.
A Merry Christmas wish for all

the Queen closed the meeting.
