St. Nick, St. Peter visit JK/SK
It was a Real Canadian Christmas
Wednesday night at Duff’s United
Church where the Walton Public
School held its performance.
Pianists such as Laura Bowers,
Sarah Elligsen, Danica Zwep,
Joelle Glanville, Joel Dalton,
Randy Zwep, Gavin Bowers,
Bridget Blake, Jodi McIntosh,
Olivia Beuermann, Hillary
Beuermann, Andrew vanVliet, and
their piano teacher Dana Dalton
entertained the crowd with their
selections of Christmas songs.
Then each class presented their
plays and songs.
A big thanks to Ken Scott for
providing musical accompaniment.
For the kindergartens the
countdown to Christmas has begun
by counting the number of ‘sleeps’
left. They were busy making and
decorating placemats for the big
Christmas dinner next week.
Some gingerbread ornaments
were made from ginger playdough.
Then they had a surprise visit from
St. Nick and St. Peter. They were
very impressed with the two,
especially St. Peter who decided
Mrs. Scott hadn’t been good all
year. St. Peter was played by Mrs.
McDowell and Mrs. Zwep played
St. Nicholas.
This week in conjunction with
their study of Christmas customs,
the Grade l/2s had a visit from two
people dressed in authentic
costumes of St. Nicholas and Black
Peter. They learned that on Dec. 6,
St. Nicholas gives candy to the
good children and coal to the bad
children.
Coal keeps people warm.
St. Nicholas rides a white horse
and carries a staff. Black Peter
carries a whip or stock to use on the
bad children. This is a tradition
from Holland. The children leave
their wooden shoes at the door for
St. Nicholas. They leave carrots for
the horse.
Mrs. Vandendool promised her
Grade 3s that after the concert they
would be able to make a little
Christmas craft each day. So far
they have made cinnamon stick
ornaments and fans for the door
from Christmas wrapping paper.
The staff of Walton Public
School would like to wish everyone
a very Merry Christmas.

Steve and Kathy Huether and
sons, greeted worshippers attending
Duff’s United Church on Dec. 19.
Guest speaker for the Sunday
worship service was Marilyn
Robertson.
Adam McClure and his mother
Heidi read the Advent Liturgy and
Adam lit the last Advent candle.
The sermon was done in four
parts ... Mary at work, a visitation,
praise on Sabbath and a vision
unfolds.
Gloria Wilbee played and sang
the Ann Murray song Let There Be
Love.
Downstairs in the Sunday School
there was a lot of activity going on.
Beautiful gingerbread houses were
being decorated and eaten and then
good old Santa Claus came running
in ringing his bells and giving his
jolly Ho! Ho! Ho’s! The surprised
and excited children each received
some goodies.
