A Note from Betty
Season's greetings to you. May the love that signifies Christmas find its
way into your heart. There were lots of family gatherings this past weekend
as folk adjusted their festivities to work schedules and extended families.
Hope you had a terrific time.
Celebration was the word as the folk at the United Church worshipped. In
this Advent Season it was the Sunday of Love and we celebrated love with
two of our favourite people, Lyle and Alice Brothers as they mark their 60th
wedding anniversary. Congratulations and our admiration. You two are a
great example of friendship in marriage. Cake and ice cream was enjoyed
after church with many of their village friends as well as folks from Ethel
and Walton. A special surprise was the presence of Barb and Cam McMillan
from Palmerston.
Flower arrangements gracing the tables were given by the M:tchell family
and we all remembered good friend Luella as we celebrated this special
time.
Sheila Richards had her annual carol party last week which featured the
neighbourhood kids as well as the continuing tradition, the reading of The
Night Before Christmas (28 years) by Ross Procter.
It you need lessons on how to smoothly lock your keys in your car and the
locations of the garages in Lucknow, call Kathy Workman.
Be sure to take a stroll, a wagon ride (Thursday) or a slow drive around
the village to appreciate all the lights and decorations people have
assembled for our enjoyment.
The last chance to get your tickets from the Lions Club members as well
as filling in your stub from the Brussels Businesses is coming. It s a win
win situation as you support Brussels.
Have a blessed Christmas, get a little jig ready to start the new century
and give some serious through to your personal challenges for the new year
and may we all improve with age!
Bye now,
Betty G.

News from the Branch
By JoAnn McDonald
Well, this is my last submission
for the 1999 year. I appreciate all
the positive comments I have
received from people on the street
and hope they have enjoyed my
words. I hope 1 have helped
enlighten people that the Legion is
a very active place and is very
supportive of the Brussels
community.
To start the new year, we invite
everyone and their families to'join
us at the branch for a New Year’s
Day Levee. A Levee is only held
on New Year’s Day. It is a
reception to welcome the new year
with hopes that it is full of good
wishes and prosperity for all.
What a coincidence for the last
singles dance of 1999 there were 99
people. A festive evening
concluded with a visit from Santa.
Only a small crowd was on hand
at the men s stag euchre on
Wednesday night.
A Christmas potluck was held
Friday night and of course a
wonderful ariay of food was
devoured. A comical Christmas gift
exchange followed and a good time
was enjoyed by all
Rebekahs meet
There will be no Friday night
dinners until after the New Year.
Don’t forget the Branch opens at
2 p.m. on Dec. 24 and closes at
6 p.m.
New Year’s Eve tickets are still
available at Murray’s Barbershop
and the Legion.
A wonderful brunch was held on
Sunday from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. last
Sunday and a great crowd was on
hand to enjoy good food and
delicious squares.
A wonderful time of year to gain
a little weight.
Merry Christmas and a Happy
New Year and we hope to see you
at the Branch.
