The Citizen, 1999-12-15, Page 20PAGE 20. THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 15, 1999. Brussels council briefs Brussels to consult Grey on possible project A request from Queensbury Street residents for repairs to the road continues to be discussed at Brussels council. At the December meeting Clerk- Treasurer Donna White said that -a letter had been sent to Grey Twp. council to see if they might consid er proceeding with the Burgess Street storm sewer project in the near future. This would allow for the resurfacing of Queensbury which runs into Burgess. Councillor Greg Wilson said that it is a project council needs to think about, but cautiously. “That road should be a priority, but it’s going to be expensive.” A letter was sent to Dan and Patricia McKay regarding the need for an easement on their property to allow for access to the storm sewer which lies between the travelled portion of Halliday Street and the outlet into the Maitland River. No response has been received from the McKays, White said. *** The brush dump will be closed for the season.♦** Repairs and updates will be done at the Brussels Library following the recent break-in. The insurance deductible is $1,000 so the repairs won’t be covered, White said. The county is responsible for the loss of the computer. *** has replaced the Brussels dog was picked up and taken to the vet. Seven were returned home with a warning. There were 45 complaints and contacts. A total of 143 tags were sold. Trick, who is ACO for four of the three municipalities with which Brussels is discussing amalgama tion showed comparisons to the four. He noted that the village’s tag fees were considerably lower than those of Seaforth and Grey Twp. In response to a ratepayer’s ques tion regarding why dog owners are penalized but cats are allowed to run Trick said cat bylaws are on the increase. “Dog owners have been hit for awhile. Now they’re trying to make cat owners more responsi ble.”♦♦♦ A donation of $500 was given to the Horticultural Society.**♦ One Brussels bag and a history book were donated to the business es’ Christmas basket draw.*** Twelve village pins were given to Tim Jerva for his Encounters with Canada program.*** White told council that the two top choices for the proposed municipality were Huron East with 39 votes and East Huron with 36.*** Ron Fire Jeff Finch Clarkson on Department. dis- FEATURING MEN'S WORKWEAR WINGHAM » 357-4503 *** A severance request was cussed. White said that while Grey Twp. had no objections to the drilling of a well on land owned by Charlie Thomas^ the planning department felt that there should not be a well where water was already available. White felt that the cost for ser vice was something Thomas may have felt wasn’t practical. A motion passed stating that Brussels would supply water at the landowner’s expense.*** Council voted to renew its pre sent insurance coverage for one year at a cost of $ 19,330.*** Anne Fitzgerald has replaced Debbie Cann, who resigned as crossing guard.*** Animal Control Officer Bob Trick gave his annual report.
