New correspondent
seeks community help
On a personal note I want to
thank those people who went out of
their way to comment on last
weeks’ column. Their observations
were truly appreciated. I trust
villagers will be as forthcoming
with notices, items of interest and
news for the column. Your input is
needed to keep The News from
Londesboro an interesting space.
Call with your contribution or drop
it off during the day at Radford’s
Farm Equipment in the heart of
downtown Londesboro.
I also ask that you be
understanding while I settle in to
this new challenge.
The annual Masonic Banquet
will be held on Friday, Nov. 5 at
the Londesboro Hall.
The UCW plans to have a table at
the school craft sale. If you would
like to donate articles to the table,
leave them at the church or with
Brenda Radford by Nov. 15.

June 1966 echoed with the
closing for the last time, of the
doors of the one-room schools all
across this part of Ontario. Many
remember how proud and excited
they were about Londesboro being
chosen as the location for Hullett
Central School. They felt it would
ensure the viability of the village
not to mention the enjoyment
provided by having youngsters in
their midst on a daily basis.
I hope you will enjoy having
some school news included in this
column on a regular basis.
There is so much talk about
financial restraints, cutbacks to
programs and school closures.
Truly, your support of school
fundraising events can make a
difference to our children. Hullett’s
annual ham supper was held on
Wednesday, Oct. 27 and over 200
people were served. The Parent
Council offers thanks to those who
donated food, helped in the kitchen
and attended. Proceeds of close to
$1,000 from this event will go
toward the purchase of next year’s
student planners.
Michael Fleischauer of Clinton
was the winner of the New
Orlean’s pizza.
Hullett Central School will host
its first Craft Sale on Wednesday,
Nov. 17 from 6 - 9 p.m. This would
seem to be a situation when
everyone wins. Admission is a
donation to the food bank.
The school council will win as
vendors pay to have a table for
their wares. Those attending have a
chance to win a door prize and start
their Christmas shopping. Plan to
attend.

Happy Gang donates $1,000
Happy Gang Seniors met at the
Londesboro Hall on Wednesday,
Oct. 27. Following a potluck dinner
they observed a minute’s silence in
honour of the passing of June
Fothergill.
During the business meeting they
decided to donate $800 to the
Londesboro Lions and $200 to the
Huron County Christmas Bureau.
The next card party will be held
Nov. 12. The Christmas dinner
meeting will be Nov. 24. Diners are
asked to bring an item for the food
bank.
Sam, Thelma and Steven
Dougherty, who have recently
returned from a year in St. Vincent,
will be the guest speakers.

Rev. speaks of growing up
Greeting church-goers to
Londesboro United Church this
past Sunday morning were Darlene
Vincent and Marie Bromley.
Gordon and Darlene Shobbrook
were the ushers. Flowers on the
memorial stana were placed there
by the family of June Fothergill.
Some time was spent by Rev.
Paul Ross talking with the children
about Halloween. They found it
difficult to believe they might
outgrow their desire to dress up and
go trick or treating. But he assured
them they must never outgrow their
love of God.
Rev. Ross’ sermon emphasized
