Chickenpox vaccine here
“We are encouraging parents to
consider having their children
vaccinated against chickenpox”
said Dr. Beth Henning, Huron
County Health Unit Medical
Officer of Health. Dr. Henning
hopes that the serious effects of
chickenpox being seen will be
reduced as more children receive
the vaccine.
The vaccine is recommended for
any children over one year of age,
especially for those children in day
care or school. Adolescents and
women of childbearing age who
have not had the chickenpox are
also urged to consider the
vaccination.
The vaccine is very safe, works
well, and costs $70 to $80 per dose.
Henning said to talk to your
family doctor about the vaccine. It
is also available by appointment at
the health unit.
The health unit also provides a
variety of free vaccines to Huron
residents such as tetanus,
diphtheria, whooping cough, polio,
and measles, mumps and German
measles. Those who meet specific
criteria may also be eligible for
vaccines to prevent the flu,
pneumonia, and hepatitis. Travel
information and advice about what
immunization is required and
recommended is also available.
Call the Health Unit at 482-3416
or 1-800-265-5184 to speak with a
public health nurse about the
chickenpox vaccine or any
immunization services.
