The six North Huron schools gathered for a tournament. shoot for Grey Bruce team The Corbett brothers of Brussels are enjoying a solid start to their hockey season with back-to-back victories as members of the Grey Bruce Highlanders Minor Atom squad. On Saturday, Sept. 25 the team travelled to Brampton and upset the hometown players by a score of 4- 2. Adam Corbett notched one of the goals assisted by Jordan Wright. Chris Corbett assisted on a Jeff Colton netter. Other goals were scored by Luke Bester, unassisted and Derek Wid- meyer, assisted by Bester. On Sunday the Highlanders host­ ed Stoney Creek in Markdale and again came up on the winning side this time by a narrow 5-4 victory. Wright nailed the first two goals, with an assist from A. Corbett on the first and Mike Longpre on the second. Colton brought the tally to three with Grant Cochrane getting the assist. C. Corbett and Colton set up Jim Hutchison for the fourth goal. Hutchison then turned around to set up Colton and end the Highlanders' scoring. The board of directors of the Huron United Way has announced the appointment of Phil Main as general campaign chair for the 1999 fall campaign. “Main is an individual who we feel, reflects the values and mission of the United Way. Ben reported on all the machinery he had seen and which he would like his father to reproduce for him. Actually many neighbours in Cranbrook attended the event. I was too busy writing this column. Strong kick This Grey Central Public School player takes a kick at the ball during a soccer tournament held at the school, last Tuesday. Schools from across North Huron joined in the Kim Bilcke, executive director. Main is the personality of CKNX radio in Wing ham, and a professional recording artist. Along with his wife Debbie and their three children, he lives in Wingham, and is an integral part of the community. This is the first time in several years that the Huron United Way has been able to consider taking on a new member. Huron Hospice is an agency which serves Clinton, Goderich and Seaforth. Through professionally trained volunteers, they provide respite, emotional and bereavement support to individuals and families who are facing a life threatening illness. The goal for 1999 is to raise $210,000 and a lot of awareness about the United Way! The official Kick-off for the ’99 campaign will take place on Sunday, Oct. 3. Two special events are planned, one in Wingham, the other in Exeter. In the Wingham Town Hall and Heritage Theatre Building, there will be an Indoor Mini-Golf Event, with nine holes which will include the elevator at one point!
