On Oct. 9. a unique vocal ensemble will be arriving
in Goderich from Medicine Hat, Alberta. Perhaps
returning would be more accurate, since one of the
members is originally from Blyth.
Susan Supeene (nee Street) has been living in
Medicine Hat since 1985 and, together with her
husband Patrick has been raising four musical children.
Among them are their daughters Flannery and Olwyn,
who will be performing with their mother for the first
time in concert at Knox Presbyterian Church in
Goderich.
“This concert gives us an opportunity to work
together on a very motivating project, and because it's
been a few years since we've been back to Ontario, it’s
a way to give family and friends a kind of live photo
album of who we are and what we’ve been up to,’’ said
Susan.
They will be working with excellent local
musicians Sharon Johnston, pianist, and Elayne Ras,
violinist, both of Goderich. Also, Susan’s brother Eric
Street has been invited to perform some Chopin piano
works. Both he and Elayne Ras will be featured
soloists.
Flannery
Olwyn
Growing up in Medicine Hat, Flannery and Olwyn
have been able to take advantage of many musical
opportunities. For the past several years, they have
sung at music festivals and in benefit concerts, both as
soloists and as a duo. And they are seasoned members
of the Medicine Hat College Girls’ Choir, which
travelled to Wales in 1997 to compete in the
prestigious Eisteddfod music festival.
Both girls have been soloists with the choir and, this
past spring, Flannery placed second in her class of 20
contestants at the provincial music festival in
Edmonton.
Both girls play piano and have had experience in
bands, jazz choirs, musical theatre and mixed choirs.
Susan began her music training in Blyth, studying
piano and voice with Winona McDougall. During her
high school years she discovered the music of Gilbert
and Sullivan and, cast with her father. Dr. R. W. Street,

different times are today.
Going to the Plowing Match?
Many people are and we hope you
get an opportunity to visit the
Legion display booth. Of interest is
a Wingham high school student’s
senior runner-up poster for the
Zone which is on display at the
match.

promote Legion programs than
during Legion Week. Dominion
Command has issued a request that
a two-minute wave of silence be
promoted from coast to coast. What
we w.ould like ail Canadians to do
is to stand as one and quietly
remember all those Canadians who
have died in the service of this
country. But this country is so large
that we can’t all do it at 11 a.m. So
we are asking for a wave of silence
to sweep across the country. We
are asking that all sound be stopped
- cars stop, buses, factories, phones
and television stations. We believe
it may be the most incredible act of
Remembrance ever done in this
country.
We would like everyone to be
part of it. Spread the word and be
ready for Nov. 11. Join the Wave of
Silence. Bring in the millennium by
making a special effort on the last
Remembrance Day of the 1900s to
pay a special tribute to those who
have died in the five wars that
marked this century.

Susan teachers voice and children’s programs at the

Cambiata explores a palette of vocal colours and
promises to be entertaining and inspiring for your
whole family. During the evening, the audience will
hear music spanning many style periods, from Bach
and Mozart to Celtic folk songs and Dvorak’s Gypsy
Songs, and they will enjoy some beautifully matched
duet and trio singing, as well as solo work from all
three sopranos.
