There were 442 steers on offer selling from $89 to $94 to the high of $102. On Thursday veal sold on a very strong active trade. Lambs sold steady. Stocker calves sold $2 to $3 higher with yearlings selling on a steady trade. Two gold steers consigned by Bender Beef Farms, Hensall, averaging 1,382 lbs. sold to Dominion Meat Packers for $102 with their overall offering of 102 steers averaging 1,454 lbs. selling for an average of $92.75. One limousin steer consigned by Walter Riddell, ^Granton. weighing 1,375 lbs. sold to Norwich Packers for $100.50 with his overall offering of ten steers averaging 1,334 lbs. sold for an average of $92.64. Twenty-eight steers consigned by Irvin Weber, Mount MNR broadens rabies drop The Ministry of Natural Resources will drop one million anti-rabies baits in much of southern Ontario this month to continue its work to wipe out the arctic fox strain of rabies. “Our previous work against fox rabies has been so successful that we are able to declare some areas of southern Ontario free of fox rabies,” said Natural Resources Minister John Snobelen. “Now, we’re concentrating on other counties. Our goal is to eliminate arctic fox rabies in southern Ontario in the next few years.” The project began Sept. 20 from the Stratford airport and Sept. 26 from the Peterborough airport. MNR twin otter aircraft will drop about one million baits containing rabies vaccine to immunize native foxes against arctic fox rabies. Baits will be dropped across rural areas from Lake Huron in the west to Napanee in the east. Operations will continue until Oct. 2. The aerial baiting operation is one of a number of projects the government has undertaken this year to protect the public against rabies. Additionally, MNR has conducted an aggressive campaign in the Brockville-Prescott area in response to two raccoons that had the raccoon strain of rabies.
