The Citizen, 1999-09-22, Page 2PAGE 2. THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 22, 1999. A Note from Betty Here’s hoping this grand weather holds out for the plowing match. It was sure great to go to the Brussels Fair and not be wet and cold. Fairs in this area maintain tradition at its best. It is very reassuring to know that some things do stay the same, candy apples, cotton candy, scary rides, good pie, wonderful exhibits and games of chance; all these things say “Fair” and are part of all our memories. I hope you made another good memory this year. The Terry Fox dream continued on Sunday with many supporters in Brussels and hundreds of other communities giving their time and effort to decrease the dread that comes with the cancer diagnosis. The spirit of the day keeps the dream of cure alive. Great work. James Murray has departed our community for Montreal. We’ll miss you but hope the folks of Quebec appreciate your gifts to the United Church. Bon jour James. If you have any county influence give them a nudge about the 9-1-I situation. It’s long past due. In the meantime go to your phone and make sure your emergency names and numbers are current, your present doctor's name and number with the appropriate ambulance number. As well you need the location of your home and that phone number. The names and numbers of folk who need to be told of a problem should be on this sheet as well. So please do that today. Enjoy these last few days of September. Bye now, Betty G. Anyone with stories or news about the Brussels community contact Betty at 887-9231. The winner was Herb Traviss of Seaforth. He was a member of the Brussels Branch for many years, a past president and executive member, until he moved to Seaforth and is now a member there. He was unable to attend on Saturday so he missed wonderful fish fry with all salads and great desserts. Over 100 people did enjoy meal and the entertainment. The Legion men put on an interesting fashion show of women’s fashion. There were many unusual outfits, but they were worn with style. Not to be outdone the women of the Legion put on an informative little skit "On the Bus”.
