The guest for the afternoon was
Tammy Antaya, from Clinton

what is referred to as "Life Line".
A film was presented, portraying
what this is all about and how
beneficial it can be in a time of
need.
A special telephone is hooked up
and a push button necklace or
bracelet is included. In times of
problems, the button is pressed and
instantly, someone from the
Toronto office, available 24 hours a
day, responds to the call and deals
with it accordingly. They then
inquire about the reason for the
call.

"Families and fitness enthusiasts
have discovered that it's a simple,
fun, and fairly inexpensive activity.
Snowshoes are often more practical
than skis for exploring forests or
areas of uneven terrain."
Visitors will be fitted with

Examples were given that
described the benefits of the Life

During the night, a woman had
fallen and could not get up. She
managed to crawl close enough to
her bed to pull down a blanket to
keep her warm. It was not until the
next morning, when her HomeCare
arrived, that the mishap was
discovered. She was taken to the
hospital for observation.
The other side of the coin
"The terrific thing about
snowshoeing is that it's quite
simple. If you can walk, you can
snowshoe," said/Buck.
During the/ snowshoe walk
MVCA staff will be highlighting
the ingenious ways that plants and
animals adapt to winter.
Participants can expect to see
abundant signs of wildlife. Deer
tracks are everywhere and their
beds are easily found in the
hemlock and cedar forests.
Tunnels left by meadow voles
and deer mice as they search for
seeds are visible to the careful
observer. Many species of birds
crowd around the feeders at
Wawanosh; a chickadee may even
take a hand-held sunflower seed.
Cost is $4 per person or $15 per
family, including snowshoe rental.
This event is suitable for children
five years of age and older.
Coffee and hot chocolate will be
served iti the Nature Centre
following the hike. Pre-registration
is requested. To register or for
