play for fun
Il was two wins and a lie for the
Blyih Novice B Bulldogs when
lhey competed in a fun tournament
in Howick this past weekend.
In their first game on Friday the
team took on Milverton and came
away with a 7-1 victory.
Kendall Whitfield scored two
unassisted shots in the first to pul
Blyth up 2-0. Byron Broome then
set up Brittany Peters, who bulged
the twine one more time for lhe
'Dogs. With 27 seconds left in the
period Tony Bean widened the gap
with a blast between the pipes.
Goalie Anthony Peters never fal
tered, keeping Milverton off the
board through lhe second, while his
teammate Derek Youngblut lit the
light for the fifth time.
Bean used the third period to
score a hattrick with two goals in
less than a minute,
Nicholas Carter finally put Mil
verton on the board with just 38
seconds left in lhe game.

picked up assists with their efforts

later, Jen Weber intercepted a
clearing pass and rifled one into the

The Walkerton girls efforts paid

In the second period the teams
battled it out with fast, physical
end-to-end play. Both teams had
their chances but strong play by
TK's Turcotte and Saugeen's Nicky
Berfelz in net kept the period
scoreless at two apiece.
After a short rest during flood
between periods, with their
batteries recharged, the action was
fast with both teams pressing.
Midway into the period, set up by
Katie Whytock and Cook, Jessica
Mann was able to walk in from the
point and fire a wrist shot high into
the net. Saugeen added another a
few minutes later when Brittany
Kellington fed the puck to Heather
Walker, who broke around the
defence and picked the top comer.
Playing in net for the last period,
Brook Wheeler gobbled up
anything sent her way and held off
a strong effort by TK's to retain the
4-2 win.
A shot by Johnathon McDowell
at 12:52 of the second put the Bull
dogs up 3-0 before Goderich's Jor
don Smith got on the board.
McClinchcy earned the assist.
The visitors pulled closer when
Adam Jenkins pushed one over the
line at 6:17 of the third.
However, a solo effort by Tony
Bean pul Blyth up 4-2 to seal the
win.
Blyth goals were scored by
Jeremy Austin (two) and Matt
Anderson (two) assisted by Craig
Marks, Derek Cook, Scott Austin
and Jeff Carter.
Clifford hosts the next two
games. Although disappointed with
the loss the coaches trust the
Bulldogs will play a more
physically challenging level of
hockey.
