Beautiful setting, casual air right for
By Janice Becker

On a warm summer day, under
the spread branches of a
magnificent tree, a couple was wed.
It was a beautiful setting for the
June wedding of Bruce and Sharon
Vincent of Wingham.
As a more mature couple and not
the first marriage for Sharon, they
decided they would like something
different and somewhat more
casual.
The ceremony took place on the
expansive lawn of family friends,
Gord and Lois Funk and their son.
Terry.
Perfect fit
The Vincents found a personal
way to celebrate their union.
The landscaped lawn filled with
flowerbeds, a small covered bridge
for guests to pass through to the
wedding site and a renovated shed
for the reception afterwards
supplied the ambiance.
The wedding was unique in ways
other than the outdoor setting. The
small intimate affair began with a
cocktail hour where the bride and
groom mingled with guests.
All the members of the two
families had not met before the
ceremony so Sharon said she and
Bruce wanted to be there for the
gathering.
Guests were told to dress
informally and even many from the
wedding party changed into shorts
from tuxes and dresses after the
official ceremony was complete.
The meal was equally casual as
cold meats and salads were served.
However, organizing an outdoor
wedding can bring its own
problems, says Bruce.
Because the ceremony was not
held in a church and the reception
was not at a hall, the couple was in
charge of all arrangements
including securing enough chairs,
acquiring the liquor, getting the
food to the site and hoping rain did
not fall.
Though last summer was
exceptionally dry, Sharon says there
were a few spits just as the
ceremony got underway. However,
the branches of the 100 plus-year-
old maple shielded them and the
birds sang cheerfully when it
cleared.
As for overnight accommodations
for their guests, the Funks
graciously allowed camping on-site
while Sharon and Bruce ensured
taxi service was available for
anyone requiring a trip to the local
motel or nearby home.
In an effort to make their wedding
day truly their own, Sharon and
Bruce had the support and
assistance from many family

members and friends who helped in
every aspect of the preparation.
It was definitely their unique
event.
Bouquet perfection starts month before ceremony
The hardest thing about choosing
floral arrangements is deciding
between all of the different
varieties available. The following
tips should make the decisions
easier.
• Start shopping for a florist four
to six months before your wedding.
• Ask florists you're considering
to show you photos of the
Choosing photographer
weddings they've done in the past.
• Consider the overall style of
your wedding when choosing
arrangements. Freestanding sprays
of daisies or chrysanthemums are
nice for the altar.
• Small arrangements are often
used to encircle candle holders.
Some options are baby's breath or
tea roses. Small bouquets tied with
ribbon dress up aisle seats.
• Florists should be asked if they
supply the white aisle runner that is
unrolled before the bride enters.
• The bridal bouquet should be
the star of the show containing
flowers in colors matching the
bridesmaids' dresses mixed with
traditional whites.
• Bridesmaids' flowers should be
similar to yours but less elaborate.
Consider a wreath of flowers or
blossoms on combs for their hair.
The flowers should match their
dresses as well.
• A basket of rose petals or a tiny
bouquet is perfect for the flower
girl.
• The groom's boutonniere should
be a flower contained in your
bouquet, and it should be similar to
the ushers' but more elaborate.
• Dads, ushers and special male
guests should wear flowers
matching the bridesmaids' dresses
or traditional white or ivory.
• Order corsages for the mothers
of the bride and groom as well as
other honored female guests. Keep
the colors of their dresses in mind
as much as possible when ordering.
• Centerpieces for the tables
should fit in with the style and
color of the other arrangements.
Keep these arrangements low
enough or well above eye level to
ensure they do not interfere with
conversation.
• The florist can make an extra
bouquet for you to toss if you
choose to keep your bouquet.
• Think of other places you mighty
like to have floral arrangements.
The cake table at the reception, on
top of the cake or at the end of the
receiving line are several options.
• An arrangement should be
made for your home if photos will
be taken there before the wedding.

and split framing, which mane
interesting pictures?
Look at other wedding albums he
has done. They may give you ideas
for your own. See if each album is
well balanced, with traditional and
candid shots covering both
wedding and reception. If you are
considering taking formal portraits
a few weeks before the ceremony,
discuss this at the same time. These
are generally taken in the
photographer’s studio where he has
necessary lighting, backdrops and
equipment. Wear your hair and
accessories the same way you will
on your wedding day.
