Singing and dancing for Jesus
Approximately 100 children filled Mennonite Fellowship Hall, Brussels, during the week Aug.
12 to 16 for the Kids Corner Journey for Jesus Vacation Bible School. The VBS Troupe of
young people entertained the children while teaching them stories from the Bible. Local
youth Aaron Cardiff, second from left, and Gary Martin were amongst the five members who
will travel to nine churches this summer to work with children. Ben Martin, on guitar, led the
participants in lively songs and dances while troupe members Brigitte Reimer, left and Anna
Janecek, far right, helped with the actions. School organizer Lauris Boltz says the Brussels
school is the largest of any the VBS Troupe has visited this year. Most average 30
participants.

Betty Graber to speak at Blyth UC service
was read by Rev. Huntley. This
was followed by his sermon
"Exercising Faith".
The way to grow in faith, he said
is to exercise it especially by
reaching out to others in love.
Why do some people have a
strong faith and others a weak
faith? Why do some people find it
easy to believe while others find it
hard? "If our faith is weak, is there
anything we can do to make it
stronger?" he asked.
He compared this to asking why
some people have poor health and
others do not. "What is true of
physical health is also true of
spiritual health, our faith. Some
people have weak faith because
their parents did. If parents are
lukewarm in their faith, this usually
rubs off on their children. On the
other hand our faith may be weak
because we haven't taken care of
it."
Regardless of the reason there are
ways to strengthen it, he said. Faith
might be compared to a muscle. If
not exercised it grows weak. On the
other hand the more_ exercise it
gets, the stronger it grows.
There are several ways to
exercise faith, he said. Study the
often .perceptions limit
achievements. He based his
message on the story of the five
loaves and two fishes feeding the
5,000.
Elwin Garland was worship
leader. Phailop Larprom was in
charge of the congregational
singing and provided guitar
accompaniment. Kathy Shantz
provided special music and also
sang for the offertory.
Next Sunday, Emmanuel George,
Greeters at Blyth United Church

Sunday of Pentecost, were Joann
McDonald and Lenora Davidson.
Ushers were Joan, Shawn and Ross
Clark. The organist was Michael
Duthie and Rev. Huntley conducted
the service. Call to Worship,
welcome and announcements

Prepare Me" was accompanied by
Rev. Huntley on guitar. The
opening hymn was Let Us With a
Gladsome Mind. The prayer of
Confession was repeated in unison
followed by Assurance of Pardon.
The hymn Saviour Teach Me
Day by Day was sung. Gladys
Cudmore, by baptism, and Bernard
Cudmore, by transfer of
membership, were welcomed to the
congregation.

Resurrection accompanied by
himself on guitar and Michael
Duthie at the piano.

gospels and talk about them, be
more attentive during Church
service. Take up the habit of daily
prayer. "But there's one way that
bears special attention," Rev.
Huntley said. "By acting in a more
loving way, assist a neighbour, be
generous, forgive and welcome
others in Christ's name, and in the
process our faith is strengthened.
Even the most physically healthy
person has bad days. That's just the
way human life is. One day life
may be depressing, an exasperating
experience. On another day life is
exciting, an exhilarating
experience. Faith is a lot like this
too.
Rev. Huntley closed, with an
inscription found in the basement
of a bombed-out house in Cologne,
Germany shortly after World War
II. "I believe in the sun even when
it is not shining. I believe in love
even when I feel it not. I believe in
God even when He is silent." My
Faith Looks Up to Thee was sung.
Pastoral Prayer and The Lord's
Prayer followed. The closing hymn
was 0 God of Bethel, commission-
ing, Benediction, Choral Response
"Go Now in Peace" followed.
Rev. Huntley assumes his duties
from Kitchener will bring tie
message for the morning service. A
corn roast is planned for late
afternoon.
Last week was a successful week
for the children's summer program
with about 100 community children
participating. Lauris Boltz, who haste
been working at BMF this summer
co-ordinated the program.
The youth held a camp-out
retreat last weekend with Norman
Barlow as a resource person.
"As summer days are come again
With fields of ripening grains
and breath of August days
We lift our songs to Him."
