A presentation by Deputy-Reeve Keith Johnston and Councillor Kevin Pletch at county council, aided in securing an approval for an amendment to the county plan which dealt with the use of agricul­ tural land. Marilyn Craig sent a letter to council, informing them she would not be submitting a bill for sitting on the Blyth and District Commu­ nity Centre board. Council agreed to give two beer mugs and a pen to each board member. A plate or gift certificate will be given to Rev. Mary Jane Hobden for attending the inaugural meeting, Dec. 1. Blyth council briefs With the downloading deadline for police services drawing close, Blyth Reeve Mason Bailey told council, at the Nov. 18 meeting, that the local restructuring commit­ tee would be pursuing the issue immediately. A meeting is planned with the Wingham police chief as well as a representative from the OPP, said Bailey. The committee is also still trying to get Morris, Tumberry and Ash­ field Twps. involved in restructur­ ing talks, he said. Council was advised that the county is also looking into the cost of county-wide OPP service. "It is a race for power," said Councillor Doug Scrimgeour. Bailey added that the local com­ mittee is also leaning towards the northern 10 municipalities in Huron becoming two, if amalgamation occurs. Council passed a motion to write­ off business taxes totalling $890.34, from a single operation.••• Reserves were boosted with transfers of $3,800 to the fire reserve, $10,000 to the road con­ struction reserve and $1,250 to the computer reserve. A loan of $36,481.50 was autho­ rized to the Blyth and District Community Centre board, for pay­ ment towards the heating and air conditioning unit and dehumidifier unit. The loan shall be repaid on demand, with interest.♦»* There were no objections to a severance application for Part Lot 8, Plan 171, for Lavem and Joan Clark.»•* Council agreed to contribute $400 for the printing of the front cover for the Blyth brochure.♦** Clerk-Treasurer John Stewart told council that with the imple­ mentation of the new provincial tax system in January, new, expensive software would be required.
