At the Nov. 3 meeting of council, a report from Jim Ryan was pre sented, which he believes will help with the flooding of John Penning ton's shop on George St The pro posal suggests running a catch basin from the back of Pennington's property onto the street and digging out the ditch, which is on village property. Councillor Joe Seili, who owns neighbouring property said Ryan felt that by doing this the water would be able to flow, even if snow piles up. "It's going to help water in the spring, but whether it will stop the water on the floor of his shop, I don't know." The plan should also regulate the flow of water coming in from the neighbouring Grey Twp. proper ties, he said. The cost of the estimated $2,500 project is to be split, with two- thirds covered by the village and Pennington and Seili splitting one third. JW problem solved, he asked Penning ton if he was going to proceed with the eavestrough work, to direct the water away from the shop. "I'm taking money out of my pocket and without those eaves, you're still doing to have water on your floor. I don't want you coming back to this council. If you won't put in writing that that won't happen, I'm not vot ing for this." Pennington said that he wasn't prepared to proceed with the instal lation of eaves, but assured council that if this work was done he would be satisfied. "I'm not coming down and bugging you. I'm asking for an outlet, I asked for it two years ago. I don't want to fight and argue, either it's done or forget about it." A motion to proceed with the work, carried. y—;—* * # *C^lutoshine Car Care & Detailing SPECIAL Protect your finish against salt & sand this winter. With the 125th anniversary bringing in a profit of $19,000, Keith Mulvey attended the October meeting of Brussels council to tell of the committee's plan to develop a park downtown. At the Nov. 3 meeting Clerk- Treasurer Donna White informed council that the offer to purchase the vacant lot on the east side of Turn berry Street, had been accept ed. A bylaw was being done to complete the purchase and the dis bursements of profit. It is being purchased on behalf of the village, so the village will actu ally own the land. It is hoped that they will be able to decorate it for Christmas. Some of the other monies raised were distributed to local service organizations.
