The Citizen, 1997-10-29, Page 27PAGE 28. THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 29, 1997. Plant problems for Blyth Blyth councillors were confront ed with the same issue their neigh bours to the east had dealt with the previous week. Henry Rouw, local sewage treat ment plant manager, and Peter Har rison of the Ontario Clean Water Agency, attended the Oct. 21 coun cil meeting to discuss the long-term maintenance of the alum tank at the sewage treatment plant. The two men had early told Brus sels council earlier this month that major repairs could soon be needed for the heat tracing on the tank to ensure proper operation through the winter. Visitors with the Furano Natural Studio from Japan made a brief stopover in Blyth during their Canadian tour to touch base with old friends. Five years ago the theatre group presented Kanashibetsu in Blyth and during their time here were billeted with local families. Two of them stayed with Jean Nethery, whose daughter introduced her new baby to them last week. The ties between Blyth and Japan date back to the play The Tomorrow Box, which premiered in Blyth and developed a huge following in Japan after its production there. Just reward The hard work and generous volunteer spirit of Brussels service groups were rewarded last week at a special appreciation night in recognition of the assistance given during Homecoming weekend. Chairman Murray Cardiff, right, presented cheques to, from left: Lions President Robert Hesse, $2,000; Fire Chief Murray McArter, $3,000, Optimist Joe Seili, $2,000 and Greg Wilson for the Park Recreation Development Committee, $1,500. Rouw did recommend council co sider enclosing the tank for prote tion, improved maintenaru conditions and lower heating cos as the Blyth plant was of a similu age as the Brussels site. The cost of the project wou range from $8,000 to $10,00 Rouw told council. Harrison advised that a $ 1,0( grant from OCWA could be ui lized to help cover the capital co: The grant would be from 1998 Blyth had already used the 19( allotment. Council authorized Clerk-Tre surer John Stewart to look in funding which may be availab and bring a report to the Nov. meeting. However, the situation at the Blyth site was not as urgent as the heat tracing system was still intact. & & && &&&&& & <&> & <& & & & & £ & ■& t & & t & £ t & & & & k Starting Thursday, October 30 Until Saturday, November 1 BUY ONE ITEM at Regular Price GET SECOND ITEM at 1Z, PRICE Z .
