B elgraveThe news from 23 come out for WI meeting
• rbCompiled by Linda Campbell Phone 357-2188
Rev. talks of Bartimaeus
John and Lois Anderson greeted
worshippers at Knox United
Church on Sunday, Oct. 26, the
23rd Sunday after Pentecost. In
charge of nursery was Shannon
Cook and Melanie Pletch.
Rev. Mary Jane Hobden
welcomed everyone. This was
followed by the singing of I'll Fly
Away and Just a Closer Walk with
Thee for song time.
The silent meditation was
followed by "The Call to Worship"
read responsively and "Prayer of
Approach" and "Prayer of
Confession" in unison.
Amazing Grace was the chosen
hymn sung by the congregation.
The choir of mixed voices sang
Look Down, accompanied by
Elizabeth Procter at the piano.
The Old Testament reading was
taken from Job 42: 1-6, and 10-17
followed by the singing of the
hymn Jesus Loves Even Me.
The children gathered in the front
pews for story time. The theme was
based on "Reformation" and what it
is. Il is a reformed church. It is
God's dream to save love, peace
and all the world. The children
adjourned to the basement for
Sunday School.
The Responsive Psalm 34: 1-8
was read. The Gospel lesson was
taken from Mark 10: 46-52
followed by the singing of the
hymn Be Thou My Vision.
Rev. Hobden's sermon centred on
Bartimaeus, the blind man.
Everyday he sal by the road and
asked the people who passed by to
give him money. One day he heard
a lot of people passing by and they
told him that Jesus was coming.
Bartimaeus began calling
"Jesus". Jesus heard him. He
stopped and asked him what he
could do for him. Bartimaeus
replied, "Please make my eyes
see." Then Jesus said, "Your eyes
may see because you believed."
All of a sudden, Bartimaeus
could see. He could see all the
colours and shapes, all the people,
and Jesus. He praised God and all
the people praised God, too.
Ken Procter and Paul Walker
took up the collection, followed by
the offertory song All That I Am,
the Prayers of the People and The
Lord's Prayer.
The closing hymn Pass Me Not,
the Sending Forth, Commissioning
and three-fold Amen, "Go Now in
Peace" brought the service to a
close.

The annual Christmas dinner and
program will be held in Belgrave
on Dec. 9 at 7 p.m.
Roll call was answered by "a
place in England that I would like
to visit"
The program convenor Gladys
Van Camp read several poems with
a fall theme and also introduced
Vicky Black as the guest speaker.
Vicky, assisted by her mother, Barb
then showed a slide presentation of
her trip Iasi summer to England
with Blyth Pathfinders. She had
excellent pictures of the places she
and other Pathfinders toured during
their time in England. Her
commentary was quite interesting
and she had a display set up
showing post cards, currency,
souvenirs, badges collected, etc. It
sounded like her time spent there
was educational as well as fun.
A thank you gift was presented to
her on behalf of all WI members.
With Marj Coultes as pianist the
meeting ended with the singing of
God Save the Queen and the WI
Grace.
Wilma Higgins and Isabelle
Craig served a tasty lunch.
Next month a special "Prelude to
Christmas" meeting is planned with
Norma Moore as convenor. The
evening will begin with coffee and
dessert at 7:30 p.m., followed by a

will be a small fee for this.

invite a friend or neighbour to
come along for this special
program. The date is Tuesday, Nov.
