Trip to Molesworth bowling alley a September highlight for residents of Huronlea By Olive Sproul The first of September was quite a busy month. Although the first few days were quiet enough...things began to pick up with our first attempt at bowling. "Bowling!" you will exclaim, doubtless rolling eyes heavenward! That was my reaction, when Cindy first asked me, "How can I bowl? I can't get out of this wheelchair." However as one of my premier mottos in life has been "I'll try anything once!" and "I've had a lot of fun trying." I was first in line when we set off with Steve and Cindy for Molesworth. Our group consisted of Jack Rice, Freda Button, Ruth Cassidy, a new girl in town from Blyth, Bill Leavy, Levi Carter, Norma Hamilton and me! I can't say enough about the people who run the Molesworth lanes! They were kind, considerate and always trying to be helpful. Our next outing was our long awaited trip to the Bruce County Town of Walkerton's Bruce Lea Haven. It was a beautiful morning, perfect for a drive, and the mood was euphoric. The sky was a sapphire shade without even a cloud to hint of less than perfect weather in the offing. The only fly in anybody's ointment happened when we came to a detour sign and had to take to some dusty gravel roads. This caused us to commiserate with Cindy, who would be wincing whenever a stone threatened the paintwork on her new Olds. We were provided with an excellent lunch having a choice between a variety of sandwiches, served with cream of tomato soup, or chicken served with light, fluffy dumplings. They were really delicious. For dessert, we had a choice of lemon or strawberry cheesecake with the option of a second serving of the other flavour! Lunch was served on the partly paved, partly bricked patio, shaded by a new awning. After lunch we were invited upstairs to the large main dining room where we were royally entertained while our people were taken on a tour of the facility. It's at least three, maybe four times, the size of our little home away from home. The next day was the resident's council meeting. Edna Evershad accepted the post of treasurer. Both Edna and I, as president, indicated our willingness to stand for another term. We had quite a lot of business to take care of this month. First was cat care, since Suzy Q had been sent to a farm because of her habit of running off. We heard a report that she’d made herself right at home and was now boss of the harn Prizes, for the annual crafts show and bake sale draw are on display in the front foyer. Tickets are available at the tuck shop from Steve or Cindy or Edna Evers. Our cat, Sylvia had just become a mommy with one new kitten and more to come. By 5:30 a.m. she had her family. She was a proud mama basking in the attention she got. During the next two days every resident had made the pilgrimage to see the babies. Later that week we went to Blyth Festival to see Barndance Live! Il was an excellent show and well cast. The actors were very good and indeed very true to the Barn Dance gang. We all thoroughly enjoyed the show. Most incidents causing injury occur less than five blocks from home. 93 per cent of children age 6-16 ride bikes.
