The news from D. Fraser sings with Bobby Vinton
Students enjoy play
Doug and Marj Fraser returned
this weekend from Branson, MO,
where they spent a week. A
highlight for the couple was
watching the Bobby Vinton show.
It was Doug and Marj's 49th
anniversary, so Doug got up and
sang a love song with Bobby to
Marj.
The first prize winners of euchre
a few weeks back was Ken
Preszcator and Lou Maloney. Lois
and Raymond Haggitt took second
place with Beth Pryce and Olive
Papple winning the third prize.
Ladies' high lone hand prize went
to Delores Howatt and Ivan
Benniewies won for the men.
Nov. 5 is the Walton Fall supper.
Bring appetites and feast on some
delicious turkey with all its
trimmings.
This week the Walton Early
Years children worked on the letter
'D'. They made some donkey
puppets and Mrs. Scott brought in
her donkey collection for them to
see. The children also got to go to
the Blylh Theatre where they
enjoyed watching Charlotte's Web.
Mrs. Crocker took the Grade 3/4
class to the woods where each child
got to pick and name their own
tree. Such names as, The
Terminator, Kelly and Skinny
Minny were used. They measured
the diameter of their trees, did
some bark rubbings and took
samples of the leaves. They located
their trees on their maps and used
key identifiers so as to be able to
locate their trees the next time they
go into the bush.
Mrs. Vivian's class made webs
for Wilbur. They had made the
spider 'Charlotte' in their webs and
also words that depicted some of
the characteristics of Wilbur such
as awesome, cool, lovely and fine.
The whole school enjoyed seeing
the play and the teachers found that
the children were quite spellbound
with the very well-done play.
Speaker at Duff’s
Doreen Hackwell greeted
worshippers at Duff's United
Church on Oct. 26. Guest speaker,
Don Vair, opened the morning
service by giving the Call to
Worship. The children's choir,
dressed in 'rock style' did a great
job in singing, Joan Osborne's One
of Us.
Mr. Vair invited the children
forward and told them about his
love for animals and how they used
to have toy Pomeranians. His
family was thinking that maybe it
was time to get one again when
they found a woman who wanted to
get rid of hers. They were warned
though that it only had three legs.
Well they came to love the little
dog and were amazed at all the
things that it could do with only
three legs. It reminded him of
people who say "If only I had good
health then I would really be able
to do things for God." or "If only I
had a better job." or "If only I had
talent like that person then I could
do more for God."
Mr. Vair told the children that
God gave people what they have, to
do what they can. "That’s all he
wants. To do the best we can with
what we have."
His sermon was called, "O Ye of
Little Faith." He asked the people if
they ever feel guilty when they sing
songs of faith such as What a
Friend We Have in Jesus. "We sing
about and read about having faith
and trust. Yet we worry, our
stomachs get tied up in knots and
don't fully trust a lot of the time."
Jesus had the same problem with
the disciples in his time. They were
with him, had eye witness
testimonies of all that Jesus did,
and yet he had to say to them, "Oh
Ye of Little Faith".
How much more did they need in
order to believe and trust in him?
Peter was walking just fine on
water until he took his eyes off
Jesus and onto his situation and
