With aggressive plays like this one, Brussels Novices took
the win over Blyth in tournament action in Brussels on
Saturday. The A championship in the minor hockey
sponsored event went to Lucan, which defeated llderton
in double overtime by 2-1. Brussels lost the B in double
overtime to Flesherton by 4-3.
Bulldogs take bite out of Goderich
Brussels PeeWees down Clinton
The Blyth Midget Bulldogs took
a bite out of the competition on
Oct. 26, sailing to a 6-1 victory of
the Goderich Sailors.
Darrell Garrets notched the first,
assisted by Mike Haggitt, who
snuck one of his own between the
pipes five minutes later.
Haggitt assited on the third goal
of the game, scored in the second
off the stick of Corey Campbell.
Haggitt then tallied his second,
Blyth Atoms taste victory
The Blyth Atoms captured a
WOAA victory when they took on
Clinton, Oct. 25.
Strong efforts by Ryan
McClinchey and Darren Austin
boosted the team to a 5-2 win.
Austin scored first with seven
minutes left in the first, assisted by
Brett Bean and McClinchey,
though the lead was short lived
when Clinton even the scored
before the first buzzer.
Blyth was down 2-1 going into
the third before the offense took
over and never relinquished the
lead.
Austin, assisted by Bean, bulged
the twine at 12:24 of the third, fol
lowed by two McClinchey netters
at 8:26 and 5:26.
Tyler Kernighan earned two
assists with Austin gaining one.
Austin put the final Blyth goal
assisted by Cory Bragg with just 35
seconds remaining in the period to
give the visitors a 4-1 lead going
into the third.
Goderich finally got on the
boards in the last period, but anoth
er shot by Mike Courtney increased
the lead by four once again. Then
Kyle Anderson, with help from
Chris Carter finished it off at the 56
second mark for the end of a solid
first out effort.

Brussels PeeWees won their first
game of the season Friday against
Clinton 9-3.
Brussels scored early as Sean
Hoegy deflected a Scott McDonald
point shot from Kenny McCallum
at 9:32 with only eight seconds left
in the first.
Darryl Houston scored on a nice
setup from Matt Clarkson and
Jimmy Franken.
In the second period Brussels
continued their hard work and
strong forechecking. Houston
scored from McCallum at 13:37.
Hoegy scored his second of the
game from McDonald and Franken
Bulls still
winless
after loss
to Barons
The only game the Brussels Bulls
played this weekend was at home
to the Hanover Barons on a snowy
Sunday afternoon.
The Barons opened the scoring at
the Il-minute mark of the first
period and managed to take a 1-0
lead into the second period. At
14:44 of the second period they
took a 2-0 lead which they held
until 6:50 of the third.
Two minutes later they upped
that to 4-0. With 1:41 remaining in
the game, on a power-play, Mark
Durand re-directed a shot from
Brett Fischer at the point to give
the Bulls their only goal of the
game. Dan Balog stopped 35 shots
while the Barons net-minder
stopped 33 Bulls shots in a game
that saw the Bulls get 20 minutes in
penalties to the Barons 28 minutes.
The Bulls play three limes next
weekend with the first being al
home to Walkerton on Hallowe'en
at 9 p.m., then returning to Hanover
on Saturday night, then once again
at home to Wiarton on Sunday at 2
p.m.
at 11:43.
The 9:25 mark of the second saw
Darryl McClure score with helpers
going to Adam Hall and Houston.
Tyler Campbell got on the
scoreboard at 5:18 with the helper
going to Lee Dilworth.
With 28 seconds left in the
second McCallum snapped a shot
past the Clinton goalie with assists
from Hoegy and Houston.

Stephenson notched his first of the
year on a nice setup from Franken.
Clinton scored the next two
goals, however Houston blasted a
slapshot in from just over the
blueline to complete his hat-trick
from Hoegy and McDonald.
Coaches say it was a strong team
