Milestone
Glenna Stephens of the Highland Apartments in Morris
Twp, celebrated her 99th birthday with friends on
Wednesday, Oct. 22. Mrs. Stephens and her husband
moved to Brussels in the 1940s. Her husband, a doctor at
Westminster in London, set up a practice in the village.
The Stephenses had five children — Isabell is a nurse in
Boston, Dorothy is a schoolteacher in Toronto, Glenna is
a retired businesswoman, now a housewife in St. John,
Russell is a dental professor at the University of Western
Ontario in London and Jim is a surgeon in Kitchener.
Though she now lives fairly quietly, Mrs. Stephens enjoys
passing her time reading.
Melville WMS met at the home
of Thelma Cardiff for their regular
meeting on Oct. 6.
President Helen Elliott offered a
prayer. The Thanksgiving
programme as outlined in the Glad
Tidings was followed by the
members with Isobel Gibson and
Marguerite Krauter reading the
parts of voice one, and voice two.
The hymn O Lord of Heaven and
Earth and Sea was sung. The
president led the programme
beginning with prayer after the
offering was received.
Thelma Cardiff read the
secretary's report and Ruby Steiss
the treasurer's report in the absence
of Leona Armstrong.
Margaret MacLeod gave a very
interesting report on missionaries in
China. Also, she talked of other
missionaries who have worked to
spread the gospel.
A hymn was read and Rev.
Cathrine Campbell closed the
meeting with prayer.

The next meeting will be held at
the home of Mary Huether on Nov.
