The Citizen, 1997-10-15, Page 19Chrysler puts 4-door Ram Quad Cab on lots By Janice Becker Citizen staff From the new four-door design of the Dodge Ram Quad Cab to the roomy Durango and sleek Intrepid, the Chrysler Corporation has brought three new models onto the market for 1998. The new design for the Ram Quad Cab allows for easier access with two cargo doors. The unique styling has allowed a large opening when both doors are ajar as there is no frame through the centre to hin­ der movement. Accommodating up to six passengers, the front bench slits 40/20/40 and the rear bench also folds down. "This is the first time for four doors," said Larry Rice of Brussels Motors. The redesign continues inside with dual airbags and a new steer­ ing. The Ram has numerous options available with Magnum engines from 5.2 litre to 5.9, V8 or the 300 hp., V10. A Cummins Turbo Diesel offers greater torque and power. The Durango 4x4 sports utility, with increased room, power and capability, can seat eight comfort­ ably. From the more modest 3.9 litre Magnum V6 with 175 hp., the Durango can be equipped to haul 7,000 lbs. with the 5.9 litre, V8. The Durango is built on a Dakota base, Rice said. "It is similar to the Jeep Cherokee Line." Standard features on the base SLT model include dual airbags, air conditioning, rear ABS brakes, Honda Accord has sleek body lines For Honda dealers and prospec­ tive buyers, the biggest change for 1998 is the new body style of the Accord. "The Accord is the traditional mid-size car," said Paul Hom, sales manager of Car City Honda in Lis- towel. Aside from the smoother lines, Hom said the Accord has the low­ est emissions for Canadian models. "It is the first in Canada to meet California standards for emissions." Some standard and optional fea­ tures available for the Accord are ABS, CFC-free air conditioning, cruise control, dual airbags, AM/FM stereo with CD player, power mirrors, steering, windows and door locks, AM/FM stereo cas­ sette, keyless remote entry with panic alarm, speed control, tilt steering wheel and forged alu­ minum wheels. It is another option for those fam­ ilies who love spending the week­ ends together off-roading. For those seeking luxury and power moonroof, power adjustable seats, leather interior and more. The two-door coupe has Honda's new VTEC engine which provides power with fuel efficiency. The LX and EX models have 150 horse­ power and five-speed transmission. The top end EX with V6 engine has 200 horsepower and four-speed automatic. The four-door sedan has increased room and power while enhancing the styling and upgrad­ ing standard equipment. The Accord seats five adults comfortably with increased head and leg room. Cargo space has been boosted styling, the completely redesigned Intrepid and Concorde offer a sleek, sophisticated look, said Rice. "They have a more modem look, smaller engine with more power, resulting in better fuel efficiency." In the style of classic sports cars, the grille is textured and the head­ lights sculpted, on the Concorde. with a larger truck size and fold­ down rear seat. Top of the line coupes and sedans offer climate control for the comfort of all passengers. Attention has been given to the ride through greater rigidity for a more stable ride. Improved sound­ proofing has also quieted exterior sounds. The other introduction into the .Honda family was the CR-V sport utility vehicle which came on the market last February. The uniqueness of the vehicle lies in its four-wheel independent suspension, giving it the agility of a sports car yet the toughness of a Standard equipment on the LXi includes traction control and ABS brakes. One thing which has not changed for Chrysler is the price of the vehi­ cles. "Chrysler has maintained (most of) last year's prices," said Rice, "With the lowest prices of the Big Three." • truck.
