WI sees afghan demonstration •
The September 18 meeting of the
Auburn WI was held at the Hall.
President Tina Empey welcomed
everyone and the Ode, the Mary
Stewart Collect and O Canada
opened the meeting. Laura Mae
Chamney was the pianist.
Betty Archambault introduced a
former and very active WI member
Lois Haines. Mrs. Haines displayed
a beautiful afghan. She then
showed the dowels with crochet
hook ends on which it was made.
Then with two skeins of purple
wool she proceeded to explain and
show how to make one. It was
amazing how quickly some of the
wool became the beginning of
another afghan. Lois was thanked
and presented with a gift by Betty

Bring Their Learning was sung.
The children went to the front.
The mystery article was a cake

explained how it was used and
pretended to serve them chocolate

importance of giving to others.
He closed with prayer. The
children's chorus Jesus Loves the
Little Children followed as they
went to their Sunday School

Just As I Am was sung. Rev. Ross
read Proverbs 31 concerning the

would be the greatest among them
and Jesus knew. He called them
and said that being first or last was
immaterial - they should be God’s
servants.
Rev. Ross used a small child to
stress this point. He closed with
prayer and the hymn Take My Life
and Let It Be was sung.
The sermon was "What a Great
Church!" Rev. Ross compared the
big churches and cathedrals to the
smaller and rural ones. In the
smaller communities, he said, they
are all friends and neighbours.
There is more oneness in working
as one for God. The small churches
are liberal in their work and
