E ntertainment Huron artists show and sell Festival spins ‘Charlotte’s Web’ Charlotte's Web, a classic children's story about a spider and a pig, will be presented at Blyth Memorial Community Hall Saturday, Oct. 25 at 1 and 3 p.m. It follows in the tradition of other recent Blyth Festival children's hits like Peter and the Wolf in 1994, Let's Do Munsch in 1995 and New Friends, Old Friends last year. These productions have played to more than 14,000 students, teachers, and parents. Written by E.B. While and adapted for the theatre by Joseph Robinette,Charlotte's Web is about Wilbur, a pig lovingly raised by a girl named Fem. With the help of a rat, goose and sheep, Charlotte thinks of a wonderful way to save Wilbur from Kraft, IGA team for child safety It's a parent's nightmare and a police officer's challenge - a child is missing and the most basic and vital information about that child is not available. Now, KRAFT Canada inc. and IGA have joined together to launch FREE children's identification events across Ontario to ensure that every parent has that information during an emergency. Back to School and On Their Own Recognizing the essential need to provide parents with the proper safety tools and aware that children have headed back to school and are often on their own, KRAFT Canada Inc. and IGA are hosting free Kraft KidCare Safety Passport events across Ontario on Saturday, Sept. 20 and Sunday, Sept. 21 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. "It is very important for parents to have a recent head and shoulders photograph of each individual child," says Lesley Bedard, Co Marketing Manager Retail Sales, KRAFT Canada Inc. "And how many parents can relate their child's current weight and height in a time of stress and panic? We certainly hope no parent will ever need this information, but at least with the KRAFT KidCare Safety Passport parents can have peace of mind knowing they have all the information readily available should the need arise." The Perfect Picture is Worth More Than 1,000 Words More than 56,000 children are reported missing in Canada each year. The RCMP reports a standard head and shoulders photograph can be the most important tool in finding a missing child. Most parents have photographs of their children, but the majority are not suitable for release to law enforcement officials and the media in the event of an emergency. "Our goal with the KRAFT KidCare program is to ensure that parents have a proper, current photo and other vital statistics readily available for each child," says Tim Carter, vice-president Public Affairs for The Oshawa Group Limited and spokesperson for IGA. "Having a current head and a pig's unhappy fate and ensure him a happy life on the Zuckerman farm. Directed by Duncan McGregor, a Blyth Festival board member and former Artistic Director of Carousel Players in St. Catharines, this play is performed by actors from the area, including Anne Elliott, Erin Roulston and Capucine, Teaguen and Zoellyn Onn, all of Blyth, Kim Souch of Seaforth, Kaitlyn Knight of Goderich, Carol Oriold of Listowel and Kira Stuckey of Wingham. At the KRAFT KidCare Safety Passport events, parents can take children to their local IGA store to get a FREE safety passport, including a current, proper photo, and other important emergency information. Trained volunteers will be on site to help parents and their children through each step of the Safety Passport booklet. These include recording personal data about each child such as information about their friends, measuring their weight and height, taking a current, head and shoulders photograph, and at some events, having a local police officer take their fingerprints. Parents will also be given a free safety tips brochure to help street Droof their children. KRAFT Canada and IGA teamed up last spring to hold KidCare events in the Maritimes. The program was a resounding success. "Child safety and street proofing children are vitally important given the increasing number of children reported missing each year," says Bedard. "We are proud to bring the KidCare program to families in a local and familiar setting, their local IGA store. Superintendent Sullivan says the program is well worth endorsing. "We've recommended that our member forces become involved in each of their communities. Anything that can help to make the challenge of finding a missing child easier deserves our support." Carter agrees. "We became involved to help promote child safety and to help speed the process of finding children if they're missing. This is what our community efforts are all about. First of all, it helps the police - they need accurate information about each missing child, fast. Second, it gives parents peace of mind that they've done something useful and they've tucked the safety passport away in a drawer, just in case. And third, if you ever need it, really need it, you've got that information." Kraft Canada Inc. is a wholly owned indirect subsidiary of Kraft Foods, Inc. of Northfield (Chicago), Illinois.
