THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 3,1997 MacDonald finishes in top 5 THOMAS MACFARLANE Thomas MacFarlane of Brussels passed away, Tuesday, Aug. 26, 1997, at Wingham and District Hospital, in his 78th year. Born in Findagask, Scotland, Dec. 13, 1919, Mr. MacFarlane came to Canada on June 23, 1923. He joined the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps on Aug. 1, 1941. He farmed on the eighth line of Grey Twp. from 1947 to 1978. During those years and when he moved into Brussels, he worked for Cal Krauter. Mr. MacFarlane was one of the first members of the Brussels Pipe Band, having played in the band for 40 years. He was a member of Melville Presbyterian Church and a life member and a past president of Brussels Legion Branch 218. He was the beloved husband of Bemice (Parr) MacFarlane, whom he married Sept. 20, 1941, loving father of Joyce and Ed O’Neill of Clinton, loved grandfather of Jeff and Kari Vincent of Seaforth and the late Michael James Vincent (1989) and great-grandfather of Michael Wayne Vincent. He was the dear brother of Janet MacPherson of Lucknow and the late Walter MacFarlane, Mungo MacFarlane, Hamish MacFarlane and Christine Raynard. Rev. Cathrine Campbell officiat­ ed at the service from Betts Funeral Home, Brussels, Aug. 29. Interment was at Brussels Ceme­ tery. Pallbearers were Jim Warwick, Bill MacPherson, Murray Bray, Harris Campbell, Joe Raynard and Murray MacFarlane. Flowerbearers were Jeff Vincent, Kari Vincent and April Ball. The eulogy and pipe were done by Donald Dunbar. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 218, Brussels, conducted a memorial service, Aug. 28. Ice dancers, Jennifer Boyce and Peter MacDonald, captured fourth place at the Nebelhom Trophy in Germany, the first Senior International Figure Skating Competition of the 1998 season. Boyce and MacDonald, who were the only Canadian entry in the dance event, skated flawless performances in each part of the competition. A third placement in each of the two compulsory dances, put them ahead of the world ranked Bulgarian champions in this portion of the event. Teams from Russia placed first and second. Fifth and sixth place teams were from Germany and Great Britain. Marilyn Symko of Calgary's Glencoe Club is the coach of this up and coming dance team, and their free dance choreographer is Russian coach Natalia Linechuk.
