The Citizen, 1997-08-20, Page 15THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 20,1997 PAGE 15. R. Steinman leads worship On Sunday, Aug. 10 Victor Dorsch from New Hamburg brought the message to Brussels Mennonite Fellowship. Rod Steinman was worship leader. Pastor Dorsch spoke on "meeting the Resurrected Christ". He pointed out that the resurrection of Christ is the basis of Christianity. Several Eastern religions are similar to Christianity except that they believe that Jesus' body was stolen when the soldiers were asleep i.e. there was no resurrection. Many religions believe in a religion of good works, he said. They think that their good deeds will earn them salvation. Jesus commissioned the disciples to bear testimony of the resurrection to the rest of the world because they were witnesses to it. This testimony caused some of them time in prison. "We can only be true witnesses if we have experienced the resurrected Christ in our lives. We have the promise of resurrection for us if the Spirit is living in us." Pastor Dorsch challenged the congregation by asking, "Are you a faithful witness? You can be if the resurrected power is alive in you." On the weekend of Aug. 10, 27 youth and several sponsors attended a camp-out retreat at Awenda Provincial Park near Penetanguishene. Arland Friesen- Epp, conference youth minister, was the spiritual resource person for the group. The week of Aug. 17-23, the Grade 8 class is attending Silver Lake Mennonite Camp near Hepworth. The Grade 4-6 class has planned a day at the beach on Aug. 18. An outdoor service was held at Martins' Landing (on the farm of Howard and Alice Martin) Sunday, Aug. 17. Elwin Garland was worship leader and Mark Hiller led the singing, assisted by the Husseys. Mark Hussey gave the message. Natalie and Matthew Hussey presented the children's message. Melina, Matthew, Marla and Mark Hussey and Wayne Taylor provided special music. Mark spoke on the power that each has in them through the love of Jesus and the fact that they must constantly be aware of things that put them down and make them feel unworthy of the great things God has in store for them. "God's love for us is limitless and he will call each of us to a job for Him on earth."z you are ‘Welcome at the BLYTH COMMUNITY CHURCH OF GOD 9:45 a.m. - Sunday School for Children and Adults 11:00 a.m. - Morning Worship Phone 523-4590 McConnell St., Blyth THE ANGLICAN CHURCH OF CANADA you are welcome tftis Sunday AUGUST 24 - PENTECOST 14 MORNING PRAYER Rev.
