Lavish your lifestyle with a spa
A private spa isn't just a luxury,
it's a healthy lifestyle and a passion.
Imagine escaping without ever
packing a bag or racing to catch a
plane. After work, just slip out of
your tie or high heels and slip into
the relaxing waters of your own
spa.
Spas have been enjoyed for
centuries. In the Roman Empire,
the lower class enjoyed visiting the
public baths, while the wealthy
built lavish private baths in their
homes. Even in the far reaches of
the Roman Empire, spas were
enjoyed because they typified
Roman culture and the comforts of
home. The pleasure of a private spa
isn't just for ancient Romans.
Canadians across the country are
rediscovering the pleasures of a
home spa for relaxation and
recreation.
The question for many potential
spa owners is, do they install an
inside or outside spa. Our Canadian
winters should certainly be taken
into consideration, but with the
advancements in spa technology,
placing your spa inside or outside
is a personal choice.
Before you go shopping, think
about your lifestyle and why you
want a spa. Is it for entertaining,
soaking sore joints or private
relaxation? Where do you spend
most of the time in your home and
why? Where do you have the space
and is it suitable for a spa? Once
you have that sorted out, think
about the environment you want to
create around your spa. You are
making an investment in you, so
you want your spa environment to
be as enjoyable as possible.
When you have finally decided
upon placement, decorating is your
next challenge. Here again consider
your lifestyle. For an indoor spa
ask yourself, "is it inviting?" Do
you feel relaxed when you soak,
and if, not why? Is it the colour or
are you afraid of getting the floor
wet? Does the area feel crowded?
Before you start knocking down
walls, do some homework. An idea
scrapbook is a great way to
discover what you like, options
available and develop ideas for
your special area. Do your research
by browsing decorating magazines,
trade magazines, building centres
and books. Cut out the pictures you
really like and paste them in your
sciapbook. Even scraps of
materials such as flooring and

control the adult before it can lay
eggs.
One option is cultural control.
This is a nice way of saying you
pick the CPB by hand and crush it
or place in a pail of soapy water.
Crush any egg masses you see.
Eggplants are preferred by the CPB
and may be used as a trap crop to
keep them off potatoes.
The biological insecticide bT will
give control if applied to the larvae
when they are still very small.
Other insecticides such as diazinon,
pyrethins and rotenone may also
work although resistance has been
noted to many pesticides and hand
picking is recommended wherever
possible.
Apply insecticides only when
injury is seen and according to the
product label.
drapery, should be glued into your
idea book. After a while when you
look through your idea book, you
will discover you have a particular
style that’s just you, and you have
created a visual aid to create the
lavish spa area of your dreams.
If the spa is outdoors, ask
yourself, "Will I use it year-round,
and can I use or do I want to use it
in the winter?" Will it be close to
some type of shelter to keep the
wind down or close to a heated area
to take off winter clothing? Do you
have the privacy you want and how
many people will be relaxing in the
spa?
Remember, spas that experience
heavy bather loads should have the
water changed every month, as well
