Over and out
The Tyke squads from Elma Logan and Stephen Twp. squared off in the B final on Sunday
for the year-end tournament in Brussels. Stephen captured that championship title, while the
A crown didn't even have to be taken home, as the hosting Brussels club skated to victory.

After finishing the regular season
with wins over Blyth and Zurich in
which Brussels scored an amazing
13 times, the Tykes went on to
become South Division Champs at
a tournament this weekend in
Brussels. Leading the scoring for
Brussels was Chris Corbett with
five, Christopher Jutzi with four,
Jordan Campbell with back-to-back
goals which were his first goals,
and Adam Corbett and Jake
VanBeek with one each.
Brussels Tykes entered the
annual Clinton tournament on
March 7, 8 and 9. After losing to
Port Elgin in the first round
Brussels went right on to the "B"
final against Seaforth by beating
Stephen Twp. and Lucknow.
Without their leading scorer,
Brussels had beaten Lucknow and
only Seaforth stood in their way of
winning the "B".
The final was close all the way.
After regulation time the score was
tied and a six-minute overtime was
next. With only 30 seconds left to
play Adam Corbett scored to take
the lead, but then Seaforth scored
with 10 seconds left to force a
sudden-death shootout.
Once the rules were laid out to
both teams the three players were
picked and put in the penalty box to
wait for their chance to shoot.
Adam Corbett took his spot
opposite the Seaforth player at
centre ice. According to Coach
Charles Corbett, when the whistle
blew both players were to start
skating towards two goalies, but
the Seaforth player never moved so
the Brussels player stopped half
way. The referee told him to keep
going. Then just as he started to
skate again the Seaforth goalie
skated out and poke-checked the
puck away. Seaforth scored to win
the game and Brussels received the
"B" runner up.
The year-end tournament for the
Brussels Tykes was a chance to
show how well they had improved
over the season. The first game was
against Elma Logan, who Brussels
had beaten all season long.
However Elma Logan were not
going down easy.
Brussels opened the scoring with
three unanswered goals, but Elma
scored two.
Chris Corbett scored the final
goal of the game with five minutes
left and Brussels defence held off
Elma for the win.
Game two was against first place
Stephen Twp. Again Brussels
struck hard and fast to take the
lead, three-zip with Chris Corbett
scoring all three. But Stephen Twp.
scored and kept the pressure on.
However Christopher Jutzi
scored for Brussels who went on to
win 4 to 2.
Assisting on one of Corbett's
goals was Tom Cronin.
Game three was against the
Clinton Grizzlies. This game was a
close game at first, after two quick
starts in the last two games, but
Brussels finally scored five
unanswered goals to move on the
"A" championship final.
The final was a great hockey
battle between Brussels "Little
Ringers" and Goderich Red team.
The Tykes dominated the game
from start to finish, never giving up
the lead. Scoring first for Brussels
was Wade Stevenson. Then Chris
Corbett, the team's season leading
scorer with well over 130 goals,
started to find the net and scored
four straight goals with help from
Lance Stafford and Stevenson, who
each received two assists.
The Tykes were not finished yet!
The Goderich team started to
juggle their lines, but the Brussels

Scoring the final goal for
Brussels was Alyssa Gowing,
assisted by Christopher Jutzi. The
final score was 7-3 for the "A"
champions, the Brussels Little
Ringers. Coach Corbett said, "I
would like to thank all of the
parents and especially the players
who got better and better as the
year went on."
The Brussels Tykes consisted of

The Wingham Legion PeeWees
scored a 2-1 overtime decision over
Lucknow to win the WOAA
championship in three games.
Lucknow scored the first goal of
the game, when Rick Andrews
netted a power-play marker.
Playing their best game of the
series and backed by the solid
goaltending of Blue Weins,
Lucknow held the one-goal
advantage until the third period.
Lucknow ran into penalty
problems, after Wingham had been
called for several penalties in the
first two periods. Zachary O'Krafka
tied the game at one with a goal
which barely crossed the goal line.
Curtis Knight and Kent McPherson
assisted. Lucknow then took a
penalty in the last minute of the
period which carried over into the
overtime. O'Krafka scored early in
the overtime session to win the
game and the WOAA champion
ship for Wingham. Jamie Chester
received the assist
Zane Davies was playing his first
game in net since breaking his
hand. He played a strong game.
Wingham's winning streak now
stands at 15 games.
Wingham moves on to the six
point OMHA semi-final series
against Port Stanley. They staved
off elimination by scoring a 4-3
win over Port Stanley in game
three. Port Stanley holds a two
gamq to one lead in the best of five
series.
Chester gave Wingham the win
with 44 seconds left in regulation

for Port Stanley.
Port Stanley opened the series
with an 8-4 discussion in the first

was a close encounter of the
hockey kind.
Dave Cook opened the scoring
for Port Stanley, but Chester
evened the game at one with help
from Jake Henderson and
Campbell.
