The news from ondesboro [Compiled by June Fothergill Phone 523-4360 Members gather for 100th anniversary L The Blyth Bantams opened their playoff series on Feb. 10 against Wallace Twp. in Blyth. The first period saw plenty of scoring with Wallace notching one late in the period to take a 3-2 lead. The second period was scoreless and Wallace's tight-checking in the third looked as if their lead would hold. However Blyth's Dave Ansley poked in a loose puck to tie the game with 3:25 left. The teams remained tied for the rest of the game and also through 10 minutes of overtime for a 3-3 draw. Blyth also got goals from Chris Carter and Shawn Bromley. Assists went to Ansley, two; Jamie Black and Kyle Anderson. Blyth travelled to Wallace on Feb. 16 for game two. Anderson scored a first period goal with an assist going to Darrell McDougall. Wallace scored twice in the second period and added an insurance goal in the third frame to win 3-1. On Feb. 17 the teams met again in Blyth. Blyth posted a 4-1 win to tie the six-point series at three. Blyth goals were scored by Bryce Toll, Chris Carter, Bromley and Ansley. Assists went to McDougall, Tyler Stewart, Bromley and Graham Worsell. Dean Wilson played a solid game in the Bly th net. On Sunday, Feb. 23 Blyth was back in Wallace for game four. Blyth built a 4-0 lead midway through the second period and went on to win 7-3. Again Wilson came up with a big game in the Blyth net. Goalscorers for Blyth were Joel Arthur, two; Toll, Derek Cook, Worsell, Ansley and Adam Anderson. Assists were credited to Bromley, three; Cook, two; Wor­ sell; toll; T. Stewart; K. Anderson; A. Anderson, John Kochis and Black. A win on Monday night has the team going on to the WOAA finals. The February meeting of Londesboro WI was held on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 2 p.m. It was a special meeting to honour the 100th anniversary of the WI. They began with the Opening Ode and Mary Stewart Collect. Lois read a poem on stone monuments. Roll call was taken up, "Where and when was your first WI meeting." A minute's silence was held in memory of all Londesboro mem­ bers who have passed on through the years. The minutes of the December Joy Daymond, UCW speaker The February meeting of Londesboro UCW was held on Monday, Feb. 17. It began at 1:30 p.m. with dessert. The UCW Purpose was repeated in unison. The worship service was conducted by Joan Whyte, Betty Miller and June Fothergill. Helen gave the minutes of the January meeting. Reta gave the treasurer's report. Thank yous were read from Marg Anderson, Rick meeting were read. Reta gave the treasurer's report. Thank you was read from Leita Wiley. The Centennial Song was sung. Reta read the minutes of the first WI meeting in February 1897. She also read "If God Should go on Strike." Collection was taken up and Grace sung. Former members from Clinton and Huronview were present. A delicious lunch of sandwiches, scones, oatmeal cookies, Johnny Cake and maple syrup and gingerbread with whipped cream was served. This is the type of lunch served 100 years ago. and Brenda Konarski and Doreen Carter. World Day of Prayer Service is Friday, March 6. There will be dessert at 1:30 p.m. Service starts at 2 p.m. The guest speaker was Joy Daymond, who spoke on mental health. Joan Whyte thanked her and presented her with a gift. Lunch committee was Linda Horbanuik, Audrey Thompson, Florence Snell and Brenda Snell. Wingham beats Milverton Knoxes greet at United Church The Wingham Legion PeeWee hosted Milverton Sunday afternoon Feb. 16 for game two of the WOAA semi finals. Wingham scored a 6-4 win to take a two-games-to-none lead. The first period was evenly played. Kent McPherson scored a short-handed goal for Wingham with help from Garrett Skinn. Loss ends Crusaders9 season Ryan Thompson scored with two minutes remaining in the third period to give the Wiarton Redmen a 3-2 win and a four game sweep of the Brussels Crusaders in senior hockey action. Jeff Wilkins had tied the score with eight minutes remaining with Greg Hellyer opening the game's scoring early in the second period action. Steve Fritz scored for Brussels Blyth Ladies glide to victory Blyth Senior Ladies hockey team decimated a visiting Southampton squad by 11-1 on Feb. 23. The hosts scored six goals before Southampton managed to get one on the board. The first period set the pace with Jen Black notching two, assisted by Amanda Anderson, Annette Lockhart and Julie Leed­ ham. There were four more in the sec­ ond off the sticks of Shannon Ward, Missy Bieman, Anderson Robert Nurse pulled Milverton even with a power-play goal in the last 30 seconds of the period. Wingham's power-play was busy in the second period. Curtis Knight scored from McPherson and Zachary O'Krafka, who then scored from Knight. Jamie Chester scored from O'Krafka and McPherson. Milverton got one back with Scott Crummer scoring to cut the late in the second period, followed by a Brian Campbell goal four minutes into the third period. Friday in Wiarton the Redmen scored three goals in each period for a 9-1 win. Scott Kuhl and Thompson each scored twice with singles by Scott Bridge, Dave McComb, Todd Thompson, Jamie Grimoldby and Scott Farrow. Tom McDonald scored the lone Crusader goal midway through the game. and Marie Cronin. Assists were creditted to Bieman and Dawn Ward, with two each, Lockhart, and Amber Rutlan. Southampton finally snuck one by early in the third only to have Blyth answer with five more. Bie­ man led the way with two, while Leedham, S. Ward and Marci Bie­ man notched singles. Credit for assists went to S. Ward, Ruttan, Cronin, D. Ward, Black with two, Leedham, A. Anderson and Lockhart. margin to two goals. O’Krafka scored another from Matthew Dinning. Adam Riehl replied for Milverton on the power­ play. McPherson netted his second short-handed goal midway through the period with Knight earning the assist. Ryan Harloff closed the margin to two, but Milverton was unable to get any closer. The Crusaders were assessed no penalties Friday night, skating to their second penalty-free game of the season.
