WI marks 100th anniversary hi On Wednesday, Feb. 19, Majestic Women's Institute held their monthly meeting in the Brussels Public Library basement with 21 members, 10 visitors and three children present to join in the celebration of WI's 100th anniversary. The meeting was opened with Peggy Keffer, second vice president welcoming everyone. Everyone then joined in the singing of the Opening Ode and the Mary Stewart Collect. A poem was then read. The minutes and treasurer’s reports were amended until the March meeting. Correspondence was read by the secretary. The motto of "Celebrate the Past, Challenge the Future" was read by Convenor Kathy Bridge. Some of the changes from the past to the manner in which things are done today were among the items Continued on page 19 Volunteers needed Continued from page 1 ing insurance. A five-year plan for projected needs at the arena, so the Group along with other service clubs could help out where needed. When McLellan asked for a show of hands as to whether an attempt should be made to keep the group going, the response was unani mously in favour. The consensus was that a refurbishment was need ed. However, no one volunteered to take over the overwhelming task of organizing and administrating. Anyone interested in helping support the Group by baking pies, ordering food, setting tables, etc., is asked to call Bessie Johnston, 887- 9368, Audrey Cardiff, 887-6457 or any other member. Brussels A delightful way to escape part of a Huron County winter is to take a trip to the south of France. Sheila Richards, accompanied by Grace Stewart and Audrey McKinney of Burlington, flew to Paris in late January and then on to Marseilles. Their destination for the first two weeks was Aix en Provence, a city 50 miles north of Marseilles. It is a university town with an old inner city and many fountains, for which it is famous. And of course there are students everywhere. The next destination was Cannes. The apartment looked over the Mediterranean and it was warm enough to have lunch on the balcony. Local train facilities were excellent which made it easy to travel up and down the coast. FINAL NOTICE Village of Brussels Residents: DOG TAGS must be purchased by February 28,1997 Proof of rabies vaccination must be shown at time of tag purchase. Failure to license your dog will result in a late charge of $15.00 per dog In addition to the License fee. Please be advised that Council of the Village of Brussels has passed By-Law # 3-1997 which limits the number of dogs over 8 weeks of age to 4 per household. Activities enjoyed were the parade at the Niie Carnival, visits to Monaco, celebrating its 700th anniversary, walks along the boulevard in Cannes, the Lemon Festival al Menton and the flower and vegetable markets. The mimosa was in full bloom, and the public gardens were planted with cyclamen, primulas or pansies. Staying in Aix and Cannes gave one an ideal opportunity to be part of the daily life of both these cities and to enjoy the many different aspects. "And yes - it was a wonderful months' holiday," says Sheila.
