THE VAST MAJORITY OF CANADIANS HAVE SAVED VERY LITTLE! < 91 Main Street South, Seaforth, Ontario on WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 26th Consider this: 1. Will Canada Pension Plan still be around when I'm ready to retire? 2. Perhaps collecting Old Age Security will be deferred from age 65 to 69 or even 70? Birth rates declined after the Baby Boomers, therefore there will be fewer contributors to our pension programs. This could result in reduced or eliminated social programs. 3. Stats Canada shows people are living longer than previous generations. Will I outlive my retirement income? 4. Will I have enough to retire on? If I don't save now, I may be faced with the very realistic possibility of being financially dependent on my children. 5. Selling my home will provide future retirement funds. But in 20 years, the Baby Boomers will also be trying to sell their homes. If the market becomes saturated, who will buy my home? 6. Taxes and health care costs will steadily increase. User fees are already here. 7. Counting on an inheritance to provide retirement funds? Realistically, Baby Boomers will use inheritances to reduce or eliminate their debts. 8. How will I protect my savings from inflation and taxation?
