It was a well-fought game between the Brussels Novices
and Mitchell squads when they met Dec. 5. This Brussels
player looks for some maneuvering room for the go ahead
goal, but settled for the 3-3 tie.

Blyth Novices suffer losses
Blyth Novices suffered two loss-
es this past weekend, when they
took on Wingham and Mitchell.
Wingham jumped to an early
lead in the Dec. 7 matchup, getting
a 5-0 head start before Brussels got
on the board.
Assisted by Luke Anderson,
Brett Bean put both goals in the net
at 13:19 and 8:21 of the third.
Josh Albrechtas played between
the pipes, thwarting several Wing-
ham chances.
Despite playing behind through-
out the game, the Novice bulldogs
continued to put their best effort
forward.
Wingham went on to score four
more, winning 9-2.
It was a close contest Sunday,
when Blyth travelled to Mitchell.
The home team had a 3-0 lead
when Darcey Cook put one in on a
nifty backhand off a terrific pass by
Darren Austin.
Blyth was down 4-1 going into
the third. Austin brought the team
closer when he bulged the twine
from a near impossible angle on a
nice setup by Jenna Rinn.
Cook topped off Blyth's scoring
at 7:21 of the third, with another
great pass from Austin.
Terrific stops by albrechtas kept
Blyth in the game, though they
took a 5-3 loss.
Improved positional play and
relentless hard work made the
game a close one said Coach Dave
Cook.

CAN COUNT ON
Brussels Novices settled for a tie
and loss in hockey action over the
last week.
With lots of hustle and determi-
nation by the Brussels squad and
good goaltending by Kyle Gibson,
the home team earned a 3-3 tie with
Mitchell, Dec. 5.
Cory Chapman bulged the twin
with only three seconds remaining
in the first, on a good shot set up by
Kyle Procter.
Proctor was again instrumental
on the Matthew White goal in the
second.
With the aid of Proctor and Brett
Hunt White put in Brussels' third
goal at the 7:44 mark of the third.
It was an exciting eame with
Brussels Tykes doubled up Elma
Logan in the Dec. 5 contest.
An outstanding effort by Chris
Corbett led his squad to an 8-4
romping of the home team.
Already down 2-0, Adam Corbett
got the ball rolling for Brussels
three minutes into the game before
his brother took over.
Chris scored at 9:49 and 2:47 of
the first with Elma Logan putting in
their third at 4:07.
Corbett blasted the game open in
the second while Goalie Lance
Stafford kept their opponent off the
end-to-ena dcz'on.
Brussels Novices did not last
long in the Clifford tournament on
the weekend. After an early loss to
Fergus, Brussels took on Mount
Forest, Dec. 7.
On goals by Proctor and White,
Brussels held even to the half way
point, but could not stop the strong
Mt. Forest team.
The Proctor netter was a beauti-
ful effort, with an end-to-end rush,
with the shot going up over the
goalie.
White fought off his checker,
deked the net minder and slid a
backhander into the empty net.
Assists were earned by Philip
Wedow, Justin Mayne and Chap-
man in the 6-2 loss.
board. He put it over the line at
19:05, 18:45, 7:47, 6:00 and 1:52.
Elma Logan managed one at the
midway point of the centre frame.
The final tally was 8-4.
Bayfield came to town, Dec. 7,
downing the home team 3-2. Chris
Corbett was again the scoring
machine, notching both for Brus-
sels. Jake Vanbeek was steady in
goal but could not hold off an
attack by Bayfield.
The Tykes play Dec. 11 at 5:30
in Brussels and participate in a
Monkton tournament, beginning
Dec. 13. The first game is at 7 p.m.
