seconds remaining in the second
for a 3-1 lead. After closing to
within one the Crusaders gave up
the insurance goal with six minutes

Paisley team on Sunday afternoon. The well-matched squads provided fans with end-to-end
hockey, but unfortunately Blyth came up on the short-side of a 6-5 final.

Bulls drop lead in
7-5 loss to Patriots
Short-staffed Juvies fall short
The Brussels Bulls travelled to
Mt. Forest on Friday night for an
8:30 start against the second place
Patriots.
The Bulls opened the scoring at
the 10:40 mark of the first period
on a goal by Ryan Kipfer, who,
while on his knees in front of the
Mt. Forest net, was able to shovel
the puck past Patriot goal keeper
Ryan Fisk. He was assisted by Dan
Williams and Andy Agar.
The Bulls went up by 2-0 when
Steve Henderson scored unassisted
at 9:05. Mt. Forest tallied with a
goal at the 40-second mark and the
Bulls carried a lead to the first
intermission up by a goal.
The second period saw the
Patriots reply once more at 15:59
and knot the game at two. At 8:19
of the second Mt. Forest took the
lead, but the Bulls replied to tie the
game 11 seconds later when Tim
Zaba scored, assisted by Grant
Jarvis and Dan Sinclair. At 4:18 on
a power play Mt. Forest once again
took the lead and then at 1:47
added some insurance. Only 14
seconds after Mt. Forest scored,
Jeff Sauve was able to bring the
Bulls within one, when he scored
assisted by Zaba and Agar.
The Patriots scored two more
goals once the third period started
to make the score 7-4 before Darin
Alviano replied for the Bulls at
13:19 assisted by Henderson. The
Bulls pulled the goalie in favour of
an extra attacker, but to no use as
the final score was Mt. Forest 7 and
the Bulls 5. The Bulls outshot Mt.
Forest 41 to 29.
This weekend sees the Bulls
travel to Wiarton on Friday night
for an 8:30 start, then Wiarton
comes back on Sunday to finish off
the season series with the Redmen.
A tremendous effort from eight
skaters and one goalie couldn't pull
out the win for Blyth Juveniles
when they travelled to Walkerton
on Saturday night.
The short-staffed team came up
on the short side of a 5-2 contest.
Blyth came on strong with two
goals in the first period, while the
hosts netted just one. Blyth markers
went to Mike Salverda, assisted by
Benji Hakkers, and Chris Stewart,
assisted by Tim Lyons and Salver-
da.
Walkerton stormed back with
three in the second, then added
another in the third.
On Sunday, Paisley came to town
and edged their hosts 6-5. At 13:31
of the first Kurt Kumm, assisted by
Mike Bromley got Blyth on the
board only to have Paisley answer
with two of their own. Then with
four seconds left in the period Dan
Groves notched one, with help
from Stewart.
In the second Paisley jumped
ahead, but Ben Craig scored at
5:58, assisted by Stewart, to tie it
up. Unfortuantely, Paisely bulged
the twine once more before the
buzzer sounded, taking a one-point
lead into the third period.
Blyth closed the gap once again
at the 11:42 mark of the third, with
a shot by Kevin Meade. Lyons got
the assist. Paisley poured it on scor-
ing two more. Blyth never gave up,
as with one second left on the
clock, Stewart, assisted by Bromley
and Scott Davidson brought the
team within one.
"They just came up a little short
on a well-played game," said
Coach Neil Salverda.
The Juveniles travel to Mildmay
on Saturday to play in a tourna-
ment, then are home on Monday,
Dec. 9 to play Brussels.
Zurich Tykes down Blyth, 11-4
The Zurich Tykes stormed into
Blyth, Nov. 30 taking on the home
team in what proved to be a lop-
sided match-up.
The tone of the game was set in
the first, with Zurich tallying three
before Blyth got on the board, then
adding a fourth just over a minute
later. Scoring the home goal was
Derek Youngblut, assisted by
Richard Greg.
Tykes win
The Brussels Tykes blew into
Hensall on Nov. 30, and showing
their hosts no mercy, came away
with a 6-3 victory.
The Corbett brothers combined
for five goals with Chris scoring
two and Adam getting the hattrick.
Tom Cronin netted the other Brus-
sels marker. Assists went to Adam
Corbett, Wade Stephenson and
Shane Gibson.
Hensall scored twice in the first
then once in the second.
Brussels goaltending was split by
Jake Vanbeek and Lance Stafford.
Blyth played catch-up early in
the second when Anthony Peters
drove two between the pipes, just
less than a minute apart. Unfortu-
nately this only served to fuel
Zurich's fire as they responded with
four of their own. Never giving up,

the valiant home squad continued
to press, until Greg snuck one more
past the visitor's netminder. The
defense, however, was unable to
hold the strong Zurich team, which
struck with three more.
The final score was 11-4.
