have access to remaining hospitals
to perform more complicated
procedures.
At present, there are 346 acute
care beds in the eight hospitals, or a
55 per cent occupancy rate. Both
counties can make do with an
estimated 100 fewer beds, applying
benchmarks when comparing other
hospitals in similar rural settings.
Key themes were outlined by the
task force, such as 30-minute
access to a hospital (except for an
emergency), is reasonable; the need
for consolidation of administrative
and support services; and concern
about retention of physicians.
Open houses will be held
beginning next week in 10
communities across Huron and
Perth to inform residents of the
three options and to obtain
feedback on them.
With the holiday season fast
approaching, the Ontario Provincial
Police (OPP) want to remind the
public of the danger of mixing
alcohol with travel.
In a continuing effort to make
Ontario Highways safer, the OPP
plans to crack down on impaired
driving violations during this
holiday season; therefore, from
Nov. 29 to Jan. 2 the festive season
RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving
Everywhere) campaign in Huron
County will continue to help curb
the death toll on Ontario roads.
All types of locations will be
targeted for enforcement. Senior
Const. John Marshall, community
services officer, said, "From
provincial highways to county
roads, township roads and
municipal streets, from Hensall to
Wroxetcr or Huron Park to
Londesboro, the RIDE checkpoints
will be in any location at any time
of the day or night."
The RIDE initiative at OPP
Municipal locations will deploy
extra officers specifically to this
program as this activity is funded
by a provincial grant with $4,484
for Clinton, $3,990 for Seaforth
and and $1,368 for Exeter, said
Marshall.
"These RIDE initiatives are
promoted to make our highways as
safe as possible for the travelling
public, especially for young
children whose level of anticipation
is greatly highlighted at this time of
the year. Therefore, the OPP are
asking everyone travelling this
holiday season to take extra care in
reaching their destination and to
make this a safe and happy
occasion for everyone. Slow down,
drink responsibly and drive sober."

while Wingham's is Dec. 12 at

houses are from 4 - 9 p.m.
"The final preferred option may
look different than any of these,"
Bell said.
The preferred option will be
established in mid-December, with
a second newspaper tabloid
circulated in early January to
inform residents, as well as
additional open houses which are
planned for Jan. 9-21. In late
January, the task force will suggest
a final restructure configuration and
a time frame for implementation of
the Ministry of Health.
