THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 27, 1996 PAGE 21. Gloria Wilbee greeted worshippers at Duff's United Church on Nov. 24. The congregation participated in the Call to Worship and after the words of welcome Rev. James Murray delivered the sad news of the death of Harvey McClure. He asked that prayers and condolences be sent to the families of Harvey. Rev. Murray also announced that Dec. 4 will be the UCW Christmas potluck dinner at 6:30 p.m. Next Sunday, Dec. 1 is White Gift service. Soup and sandwiches will be served after the service. The choir sang the communion hymn Cup Has Been Lifted. Rev. Murray's sermon was called, "Oh Worship the King". For some people, the image of Jesus as king, sitting on a throne in heaven, is the primary way they picture Jesus, he said. They worship him as the divine judge, who is going to punish the wrong-doers, and reward the faithful. Mrs. Scott, teacher of the Early Years class said her students have learned the letter 't' this week. They made turtles and even went on a turtle hunt. They have also begun making music with all kinds of instruments in preparation for the Christmas concert. In Grade 1, they have two and three-dimensional shapes and have designed their own square or rectangle using jinx wood. The class is also tracking another amaryllis bulb. Last year their amaryllis flower broke, so they're hoping for better luck this year. The Grade 2/3 class is studying Canada. Some of the kids were amazed at how big Canada really is, and that Ontario is only a small part of Canada. Mrs. Vivian also There will be even more excite- ment at the 10th annual Farm Toy, Teddy Bear, Doll, Miniature and Craft Show and Sale, Nov. 30-Dec. 1, sponsored by the Seaforth Agri- culture Society, as they welcome two new attractions. A unique and entertaining attrac- tion will be the 10'x60' display area featuring miniature circus models, built by the Martin Downs Ring No. 18 group. The collection has everything from a tiny three-ring circus tent, created by Gerald Nicholl to cami- "There are many different images we picture Jesus to be, images used to describe the kind of King we understand Jesus to be." For instance, he said, instead of a crown of gold the divine King can be pictured wearing the crown of thorns. Instead of a royal sceptre, there is the shepherd's staff. And then there is the one truly unique symbol of Jesus' divine power — a wash basin and towel for washing feet. "There is much more to Jesus than we would ever expect from an earthly king. For what king today would ever be seen washing another person's feet?" asked Rev. Murray. No matter what name is used to speak to God, no matter what image is used to describe who Jesus Christ is, the goal remains the same, he said. "God wants to have a personal relationship with us through Jesus Christ. God wants us to be on the team, and to be in the game." reported that chicken pox is still going around. There have been quite a few cases in both her class and Grade 1. The Grade 3/4 class did a wonderful job at doing their oral presentations of fables this week, using plays and skits. Some of the class is now learning Braille as a follow up of the novel they just read about a little blind girl. For Environmental Studies with Mrs. Crocker, they are working in a unit called Echo Pals — pen pals about the environment. These pen pals are in Salt Spring Island in B.C. They are also working on the Great Canadian Geography Challenge, Level 1. This is a competition for students in Grade 4-6 all across Canada who choose to enroll. val rides by Ray Bottoms and cir- cus wagons from the hands of Al Ward. Also on display for the first time are the one-of-a-kind Oma dolls created by Stratford resident, Mathilde Watkins. Aside from new displays, the toy and craft show offers free skating, free rides between shows and is billed as Canada's No. 1 toy show. Admission to the show, which is open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., is $3 per day.
