Brussels Livestock report Love heifers reach $104.50 high, avg. $92.97 The sales at Brussels Livestock for the week ending Nov. 22 were: fed cattle, 657; cows, 353; veal calves, 398; lambs and goats, 161; and stockers, 2,161. Fed steers and heifers were selling $1 higher. Top cows sold $2 to $3 higher with others selling steady. Veal sold on a steady trade with lambs selling stronger to higher prices. On Friday all classes of stockers sold on a steady trade. There were 465 steers on offer By Brian Hall Soil and Crop Advisor Clinton Field Office The Huron Soil and Crop Improvement Association has announced that their annual meeting originally scheduled for Nov. 28 has been postponed until Monday, Dec. 16. The location and time remain unchanged at the Hensall Arena beginning with a social at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. The extended fall harvest resulted in a significant number of corn trials remaining to be harvested during the week of Nov. 18. Other fall field work also remains to be completed. The postponement of the meeting Nov. 6 the Perth County Emu Producers met at the Ellice Township Hall for a general meeting. January's annual meeting is to be held at Chef Ramone's Gallery in Sebringville. An Emu dinner will be prepared by Ramone. Following dinner will be the business meeting. The 2nd Annual Emu Congress is to take place at Mitchell Arena on March 1. Booth space is still available for the trade show and guest speakers are being booked. New cookbooks are available at selling from $93 to $99 to the high of $103.75. Ten steers consigned by Delton Martin, will allow the summarizing of as many trials as possible. Variety trials and other trials including starter fertilizer and tillage trials are requested to be sent' in to the Clinton OMAFRA office. One of the feature speakers at this year's annual meeting is Dr. Mark Sears, University of Guelph. Dr. Sears is chairman of the Corn Borer Action Coalition. He will be discussing corn borer damage this year and results of variety plots including Bt corn. Tickets are available from either township directors or the Clinton OMAFRA office. Tickets must be purchased in advance (prior to Dec. 9). $8.50 each. This is a great opportunity to try Emu in a variety of different ways. The producers will be participating for the third year at Stratford's Heart Burn Days in February. The meeting ended with donuts and discussions on general farming practices among members present. The next meeting will be Wednesday, Dec. 4 at the Ellice Township Hall at 7:30. Discussion on "Preparing for Incubation" will take place.
