The session is held once annually at a larger venue to allow more vil- lagers to attend the meeting, but it was apparent there was little need for the move from council cham- bers. After welcomes from Reeve Mason Bailey, PUC Chair Tom Cronin and brief presentations from committee chairs, the meeting was open to questions from the gallery. Cronin was questioned on which hydro lines would be replaced in the village, by Joe Hallahan, a meeting regular. With a specific amount set aside in the budget for line upgrades, Cronin said those lines in most need of repair would be replaced. Reeve Bailey was asked about the cost of the education tax cam- paign. Stewart stated that approxi- mately $3,500 had been spent, which covered stationery, postage, telephone, printing and office staff time. Asked if there would be a gain by the campaign, Bailey said, "We quite certainly have had an impact. When they realized we intended to discontinue the collection of (edu- cation) taxes, they took us serious- ly." As for any penalties resulting from the refusal to collect the tax, the province's position is unclear, said Bailey. "They may have the right to sue a municipality, but if 6 tables at euchre many discontinue collection, it would be difficult for the province to initiate a lawsuit." Cronin questioned council on the ā€¯umber of conferences attended by the members. Each council member and full- time staff is allowed to attend one conference in the province per year, v OM' 11001r. sio..44. 7.4 Tai.M6v CiiA e , This ,,,7 S W u er Specials Good until Sat., Nov. 30th Schneider's Hamburg Patties 3 lb. pkg. 12/pk $5.95 Schneider's Reg. A general discussion on amalga- mation followed, with councillors confirming their intention to look at service sharing while opposing amalgamation unless cost savings could be proven. Reeve Mason Bailey indicated, at the Nov. 19 meeting of council, his intention to attend the County Council Strategic Planning session, at Central Huron Secondary School, Nov. 21. ***** No further action will be taken by council or the Blyth Business Association with regards to the new business hours of the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce due to the low response from a survey. ***** A bylaw was passed allowing the reeve and clerk-treasurer to sign an agreement with the county regard- ing certain administrative functions for the collection of tax arrears.
