Councillor Seili reported on a
meeting in Clinton regarding the
hiring of a fire-co-ordinator for the
county. The past co-ordinator had
been on call 24 hours a day, 365
days a year.
A proposal was made at the
meeting that the position become a

She also said she'd return local
control to decisions about hospital
closures.
Grey Kells, an Ottawa
businessman, who has never before
run for political office, claims to
bring a fresh, business-like
approach to the job.
"I'm fed up with seeing students
coming out of school to
unemployment, fed up with seniors
who have to worry in their old age
and I'm fed up with politicians who
come with a set of objectives with
no idea how to get there."

ordinator to move up when the term
was over. They would be chosen by
the county fire chiefs.
The co-ordinator would receive a
yearly pay of $5,000, while the
alternate would receive $1,000. The
money comes from the municipali-
ties which will now be billed based
on current assessment values. Brus-
sels share is $104.77, Seili said,
which is actually less than it had
been.
Council accepted the proposal.

"We do not have to sell our
Liberal soul to win the next
election. Contrary to what you've
heard, the people of Ontario are
moderate and want to do what's
best," he said.
"We should be agents of change,
not defenders of the status quo. We
don't pander to fear, but appeal to
hope."
The candidates were then asked
seven different questions from the
audience which ranged from what
they would do about the debt to
what they would do about
municipal restructuring.
In general the candidates agreed,
stating they would take a more
moderate trail than what the
Conservatives have and restore
more local decision-making power.
Huron Liberals will vote directly
for the candidates later this month.
The Liberal Leadership
convention will be held at the end
of November.
