The Dorothy Shoemaker Literary Awards have recognized the creative writing of children, young people and adults for 28 years but lost provincial support this year. The Kitchener Public Library Board recently announced that it is re-assuming administrative responsibility for the awards, which will be perpetuated through a generous endowment. The Literary Awards are named in recognition of Miss Dorothy Shoemaker, the former chief librarian of the Kitchener Public Library, who enthusiastically encouraged aspiring writers throughout her career. In 1967, Shoemaker initiated the Kitchener Public Library's Centennial Project: A contest to encourage creativity and writing by children, young people and adults. Following her retirement in 1971, the literary awards were renamed in her honour. In 1976, the Provincial Library Service took responsibility for administering the Awards and widened the area of participation. The area of participation for the Awards includes Brant, Bruce, Dufferin, Grey, Huron, Oxford, Perth and Wellington Counties, as well as the Regional Municipality of Waterloo. The Kitchener Public Library has established co- operative relationships with libraries, school boards and other organizations to encourage participation by writers of all ages. The Awards solicit creative writing submissions in the areas of poetry and prose (to 5,000 words) in three age categories: • Junior (12 years of age and under) • Intermediate (13 to 17 years) • Senior (18 years and older) FORM 9 SALE OF LAND BY PUBLIC AUCTION The Corporation of the County of Huron Take Notice that the lands) described below will be offered for sale by public auction at 10:00 o'clock in the forenoon on the 1st day of October, 1996 at Huron County Court House, 1 Court House Square, Goderich, Ontario, N7A 1M2 Description of Land(s) Minimum Bid $ (Set out the cancellation price as of the first day of advertising) 1.
