Heading the list is Get Shorty "*1/2 (Warner), a highly enjoyable film about a Miami loan shark (John Travolta) who finds himself ut Hollywood and bitten by the show biz bug. Based_on the novel by Elmore Leonard, this charming film not only boasts another great performance from Travolta, but the supporting players, which include Gene Hackman, Rene Russo, Danny DeVito, Dennis Farina and Delroy Lindo, have never been better. Recommended! (Rated 14A - some rough language and violence) Jeff Bridges, one of my favourite actors, headlines the cast of Wild Bill ***1/2 (MGM/UA) an interesting new western from director Walter Hill. Focusing on the latter years of legendary lawman and gunfighter Wild Bill Hickok as he tries to end his final days on his own terms, this film is rich in period detail with boomtown streets awash with mud and blood, and fine supporting performances especially from Ellen Barkin as Calamity Jane, John Hurt and many others. Recommended! (Rated R - for violence) While laserdisc fans have been able to enjoy special editions of favourite movies that feature director's cuts with varying degrees of supplementary material for the last several years, now more and more videocassette versions are also doing the same thing. The cutting edge sci- fi action film The Hidden *** (HGV - $14.95), which featured a beautiful laserdisc special edition, now comes to cassette in the original widescreen version with a second tape that includes numerous trailers, behind the scenes special effects footage and commentary by director Jack Sholder. While this version's supplementary material can't compare with the laserdisc in terms of special features at a price of less than $15 you can't go wrong. (Rated R - violence) Among the other new and unpreviewed releases this week is The Tuskegee Airmen (HBO) a made for pay-tv drama about the first squadron of black American pilots allowed to fight for their country during World War II. (Unrated) If you're in the mood for a monkey comedy then Dunston Checks In (Fox - $22.95 or less), may be what you're looking for. The human stars include Jason Alexander, Faye Dunaway and Paul Reubens (Pee Wee Herman) (Rated G) Fans of classic television comedy will enjoy The Wayne and Shuster Years (CBC - $19.95) featuring highlights from the duo's career both here at home and on the Ed Sullivan Show. video F.A .X. THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, MAY 29, 1996 Brussels Public School news Pupils checked for head lice Grey Cental Echo Goose visits school By Justin Ruttan and Jason Armstrong Last week was a busy one at BPS. On Tuesday, May 21, Grade 7 got their last Hepatitis B shot. Everyone we talked to indicated they were not scared. Should we believe them or not? You make the decision. Also Tuesday, Mrs. Bragg and Mrs. Cameron went around checking heads. It revealed a sharp increase in the number of cases of head lice. Particular care should be taken in sharing of items, such as baseball helmets. The baseball coaches have been advised of the problem and are addressing it. Mrs. Thomas, our school health nurse, is very willing to offer advice to concerned families. Call her at 887-9331. On Friday, May 17, the performing band visited Grey. The Grey students choirs also sang, everyone enjoyed themselves. The Grade 7/8s enjoyed their last trip to Tech 21 last Wednesday. Thursday, May 23 was the busiest day all week. In the morning the SHDHS band from Exeter performed for us. Their choir sang some song's including Hacunna Mattata. Everyone enjoyed their talents, and wished they could come back soon. Thursday afternoon, the Grade 7/8s went to play bingo with the elderly, at Dining Out For Seniors. Everyone enjoyed themselves having a nice friendly game of bingo. The Grades 6/7 and 7/8s appreciated their presentation on Aids. We would like to thank Mrs. Aitken from the Huron Health Unit for doing the presentation. The track and•field meet was cancelled due to rainy conditions on Thursday which wet the track for Friday. It is postponed to this, Thursday. Instead of track regular classes proceeded. Don't forget tonight Wednesday, May 29, 7:30 is the spring concert. Mrs. Douma is practicing with the soloists, to prepare for Wednesday night. Also the Grade 5/6 class will perform as well as the band. We hope you can come; it's bound to be entertaining. OUR VISITOR By Christie Snider, Debora Schlumpf, Jodie Semple In the month of May, we had a visitor at Grey Central Public School. The visitor was a male Canadian Goose. He was very friendly to all the students at recess. When recess was over the Canadian Goose missed the students and stuck around outside the doors for a while. He then waited for the students to return.
