THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, MAY 29, 1996 Two Auburn members of the Royal Canadian Air Cadets of Goderich are to be congratulated. At the Annual Inspection held on May 21 at the Goderich Collegiate, Flt. Sgt. Mike Bakker won the Cadet Medal of Excellence and Sgt. Christine Lapp won the John Sully Leadership Award. A number of relatives from the district attended and enjoyed the inspection and program. A reception followed at the Goderich Legion. A bus load of Women's Institute members, with husbands and friends from Auburn, Londesboro, Blyth, Brussels and surrounding area, attended the special baseball game at SkyDome. Unfortunately the Jays lost in overtime. The special soloist for the opening service was Margaret Mclnroy of Blyth. UCW hosts dinner In the absence of Rev. Ross, who was attending conference, members of the UCW had the service. Joyce Bean led and Bernice Gross was organist. The Invitation to Worship was read alternately. She read the Minute for Missions, which was followed by hymn Sing Ye Praises to the Father. She also read a letter from Rev. Rick Hawley. Ann Vincent had story time with the children. She spoke on the birthday of the church and had cake and candles. She then read the scriptures. Hymn Open My Eyes was sung. They presented a drama entitled "One Windy Day in Jerusalem" with Larry Plaetzer, Dana Bean and Alice McDowell doing the readings. Leanne Vincent and Brett and Michael Bcan and Rob Archambault did their part as the wind. Joyce Bean, Darlene Empey and Karen McClinchey also read parts. This was interesting and very well done. The United Church Creed was read in unison. Hymn In Thy Pentecostal Splendour was sung. The offering was received by Wayne Carter and Greg Park, then dedicated. Joyce gave the prayer of the people and The Lord's Prayer was repeated in unison. Closing hymn was Lord As We Rise to Leave and Joyce gave the Benediction. Next Sunday church will be at Camp Menesetung at 10:30 a.m. Hort. Soc. The Auburn Horticultural meeting was held at the Community Hall with a good attendance. The treasurer's report was given by Ann Vincent, who also gave a report on the District Annual she had attended. Flowerbeds were discussed, as were watering, weeding and grass cutting. David Campbell will cut Manchester garden and the hill. A plant sale was held with Lois Haines as auctioneer. Door prizes were drawn. Prizes were donated by Auburn Co-op. President Dorothy and Alison Stoker won those. The proceeds of the sale were approximately $179. A number of Knox United Church members attended the appreciation dinner presented to leaders by the official board. Londesboro UCW served a deli- cious dinner on May 22 at 6:30 p.m. A delightful program was enjoyed after the meal. The guests thanked the official board, those who performed and the Londesboro people for the enjoyable entertain- ment and excellent meal. The competition was held May 22. Parish plans camp service Confused about teens? Want some ideas on how to deal with them? A free information night for parents and others who are Involved with youth agesl2 - 19 will be held on June 12, 1996 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Listowel District Secondary School. This information night will help you: 1.Understand the issues involving teen views, needs & tactics; 2. Communicate with youth; 3. Negotiate change with them by deciding what the central issues are, through setting expectations and by getting either their cooperation or compliance; 4. Disciplining youth and distinguishing when they're being incapable, incompetent and defiant; deciding when to confront and when to ignore; useful methods of discipline. 5. Determining what behaviour must be addressed by recognizing dangerous patterns & drug use and abuse. (For this segment, Tony White of the Listowel Police will be present with a drug identification and information kit. He will answer any questions regarding the identification and use of street drugs.) This free two hour seminar will be conducted by Ken Roberts, M.Sc. Ken is a local youth counsellor with 18 years experience, who has been working directly with Listowel families and youth for the past 2 1/2 years. This seminar is jointly sponsored by the Rotary Club of Listowel and the Listowel Youth Support Committee as a community service. They had lunch at the Hillcrest Restaurant, then proceeded to the home of June Fothergill. She welcomed everyone then read a poem "No Occupation." A minutes silence, in memory of Alidia Westerhout, a former member, was observed. The minutes of the April meeting were read. Rol call was answered by nine members. Collection and draw money were taken up. The draw, donated by Audrey was won by Edythe Beacom. Edythe gave the treasurer's report. Cards were played. The next meeting is Group III. Heinrichs greet Greeters at Londesboro United Church on Sunday, May 26 were Herman and Gretal Heinrich. Ushers were Jason Hoggart and Darryl Bergsma. As Rev. Paul Ross is at conference, the church service was conducted by Londesboro UCW. Those taking part were: Joan Whyte, Betty Hulley, Mary Peel, Gail Lear, Edythe Beacom, Helen Dale, Reta Kelland, Katherine Allen, Laurel Mitchell, Crystal Whyte, Margaret Wright, Betty Archambault, Marj Duizer, Ruth Hulley and June Fothergill. Several of the women performed the drama, "One Windy Day in Jerusalem."
