from kindergarten to Grade 8 took part in the Blyth
Optimist-sponsored bike rodeo, May 23, to teach children
the rules of the road. Roller blades were included for the
first time this year.

The Optimist Club of Blyth and
District held the fourth annual bike
rodeo on May 23 at the Blyth
Community Centre. This year,
rollerblades were included into the
program.
Blyth Public School students,
kindergarten to Grade 8, partici-
pated in the event. The rodeo
consisted of a bike safety quiz and
bike inspection before students
participated in the series of
activities designed to test their
skills and knowledge of the rules of
the road.
The 120 students who completed
the program received an informa-
tion pack which contained a Bike
Safe'v booklet, sticker, pencil and
Blyth council endorsed a resolu-
tion, developed in conjunction with
the municipalities of Brussels,
Morris, Hullett and East
Wawanosh, stating they arc not in
favour of amalgamation and want
to maintain the two-tiered system
of government in Huron County.
The municipalities are investigat-
ing cost efficiency through the
sharing of services and desire to
remain as individual and
autonomous units.
They request the county endorse
the resolution and forward it to the
Minster of Municipal Affairs.
Council was advised that the
development agreement for
Mother's Day was the theme for
the Blyth UCW on Wednesday,
May 23.
Emily Phillips, president, opened
the meeting with a poem "Thank
You Mother". Susan Howson and
Dianne Ferguson had the devotions
and read several Mother's Day
poems. Hymn Happy the Home
when God is There was sung.
Emily reminded all of the bake
sale to be held on June 1 at
Memorial Hall. Everyone was
asked to bake something and to
have it at the church Friday night or
before 8:30 on Saturday.
Monday, June 10 is to be a
special day at Camp Menesetung.
Everyone is to take something for a
potluck dinner and also a lawn
chair.
Next UCW meeting is June 11 at

Shane Snell of Wingham visited
on Saturday afternoon with his
grandparents Alvin and Gene Snell.
Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Longman of
Stratford visited last Sunday with
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Longman and
George.
McConnell Street has not yet been
signed. Council reaffirmed that
work could not begin until the sig-
nature is obtained.
Foreman John Rinn reported that
spray patching will begin shortly as
will the application of calcium
chloride.

Foreman Rinn was asked to
obtain a price for the removal of a
tree and drain diversion at the
pumphouse.
Council received a letter of
appreciation from Blyth Public
School.
2 p.m. with the theme "Father's
Day". Bring something for Camp
Menesetung like Canadian Tire
money, umbrella, cookies, orange
juice tops, etc.
The choral kids then sang several
songs. A carnation was given to
several special mothers and
mothers poems were read. Roll call
was answered by Advice your
Mother gave you.
The meeting closed with a
delicious dessert served.

program with the Optimist Club
and Blyth Public School.
Volunteers Cathy, Doreen and
Joanne, as well as Optimists, Blyth
Arena, Constable Marshall and the
Blyth Public School helped make
the program a success.
