Man pleads guilty
A Brussels man pled guilty to a
charge of driving drunk, when he
appeared in Wingham's provincial
court, May 15.
Paul Engel was charged after
being stopped by police on Aug. 26.
in Morris Twp, about one kilometre
east of Brussels. Police had
observed Engel driving erratically,
weaving from shoulder to shoulder,
said Mary Dionysakopoulos, attor-
ney for the crown.
Breathalizer readings were 180
mg in 100 ml of blood.
In addition to a mandatory driv-
ing suspension of 12 months, Engel
was fined $1,000.
Assault draws fine
An RR I Bluevale man was fined
$500 after pleading guilty in Wing-
ham's provincial court, May 15 to a
charge of assault.
Attorney for the Crown Mary
Dionysakopoulos, said Kevin
Wernham, 41, had become upset
with the complainant, to whom he
is related through marriage, about
matters of business. Following a
phone conversation with the victim,
Wemham had gone to the business,
then began yelling and punching
the him on the face and head. She
said the complainant suffered a
swollen lip and bruising.
Defense said that his client, a
manic depressive, is subject to
relapses. He added that the situa-
tion was not without extenuating
circumstances. The day before the
argument there had been a fire at
the mill, which is co-owned by the
complainant and Wernham's wife.
Defense noted that Wemham had
retained sufficient self-control and
did stop himself before any major
injury was done.
In addition to the fine, Wernham
was placed on 12 months proba-
tion.

The long trek
Beginning the second circuit around the block during the
Londesboro HallWays parade, May 18, appears to be a
little more than Rachel Snell can imagine as she pulled
Jennifer in the wagon. She eventually made the round
and continued for a third. The large gathering of children
and adults had a great day for yard sale shopping, good
food and fun.
