Council reviews amalgamation
MR. HARRISON

Mr. Harrison lives in Wingham
with his wife Joanne, his two boys
and his loving cock-a-poo ( his
dog). His hobby is bird carving. He
is the president of the Ontario
Amateur Softball Association.

On Saturday, May 18 Kari and
Kurt Johnson held a 25th
anniversary open house for Jack
and Shirley Johnson of London.
Those attending were their
parents, Alvin and Gene Snell,
brothers and sisters and family,
Harvey and Deanna Snell and
Shanc Snell, Clifford and Bev
Snell, Bonnie, Nathan and Devin
Shannon and Mary Walden, all of
Blyth; Audrey and Jim Timpany
and Deneen Kebell of Aylmer.

so skinny is because of the five-
mile walk which he conquers
everyday.
Mr. Harrison went to Wingham
High School and then later to
Stratford College.
Sadly Mr. Harrison is leaving
Blyth Public School to go to East
Wawanosh next year and the
students will really miss his
enthusiasm.
Blyth council reviewed their
stand on amalgamation at the May
6 meeting.
Councillor Rob Lawrie reiterated
the fact that council is against
amalgamation however, if town-
ships in the south amalgamate,
council may have to reconsider
their position.
Reeve Mason Bailey said he
believes the fervor of amalgama-
tion is over and the south is a long
way from reaching an agreement.
Council authorized the following
donations: Blyth Festival, $1,750;
Blyth Horticultural Society, $500;
Belgrave, Blyth, Brussels School
Fair, $150; Town and Country
Homemakers, $270; Huron Plow-
mens' Association, $100; Canadian
Diabetes Association, Lions Walk-

The Blyth Horticultural Society
held its spring invitational meeting
on May 14 with 65 people in
attendance, 19 of them from the
Auburn, Brussels, Clinton, Seaforth
and Wingham Horticultural
Societies.
Hary Snell, president, opened the
meeting welcoming everyone. He
extended a warm welcome to all
the visitors from the surrounding
societies.
Betty Battye, secretary, read the
minutes of the April meeting. She ,
outlined the Homecoming float
which the Society will be
decorating. Thelma Johnston will
be co-ordinating the project.
Deanna Snell gave the treasurer's
report. She presented Donna
Taylor, retiring secretary with a
certificate of appreciation.
The men's quartet "Four All
Ages" comprised of Shane Snell,
Danny Snell, Garth Walden and
Scott Pedigrew sang three numbers,
Sleep Kentucky Babe, Pretty Baby,
Precious Memories, accompanied
by Phyllis Boak at the piano.
Guest speaker for the evening
was Phil Beard of the MVCA. He
talked about natural landscapes,
man's impact on the environment
and butterfly gardens, showing
some very interesting colour slides

Blyth Figure Skating and Blyth

Bills and accounts in the amount
of $164, 438.47, were approved for
payment.

Approval was given for the pur-
chase of an accounts payable soft-
ware package, at a cost of $2,500
plus an annual maintenance fee of
$35.

Clerk-Treasurer John Stewart
will attend the Association of
Municipal Clerk-Treasurers of
Ontario Zone 2 meeting, at a cost
of $25.

Henry Rouw will be invited to
the next council meeting to discuss
the capital expense of $4,231.60
plus taxes, for repair to the pump at
the Sewage Treatment Plant.
Council said the cost should be
considered maintenance and there-
fore be covered by the agreement
with the Ontario Clean Water
Agency.

Homecoming 96 'has been
declared a community festival and
council has no objections to the
Blyth Lions Club applying for a
special occasions liquor license.

Council had no objections to
Epilepsy, Huron-Perth-Bruce sell-
ing glads in the village for a couple
of days in August.

A request will be sent to the
Blyth Business Association regard-
ing their taking over operation of
the tourist booth.

Membership in the Huron Coun-
ty Road Superintendent Associa-
tion, in the amount of $60, was
approved.
