She opened the meeting with the call to worship. The hymn In Heavenly Love Abiding was sung. The purpose was read in unison and scripture from Ruth was read by Ivy Cloakey. Rev. Cathrine Campbell gave the prayer. Margaret Siertsema gave the secretary's report and Mrs. Cloakey gave the treasurer's report. Roll call was answered by a mother from the Bible. Forty-two sick and shut-in visits were recorded. The next meeting is June 3. Several women read a poem on Spring or Mother's Day. The WMs video "Is Europe Still Christian", was viewed. Although church attendance is low in most countries, Europe is still basically considered to have definite Christian principles. What a Friend We Have in Jesus was sung. Alice closed with a prayer and served a lovely lunch. Ashley Irwin of Ashfield Twp. recently spent a weekend at her grandmother's, Betty Irwin. Mabel's Moms met at their regular time on Wednesday, May 8. Those who attended were Sandra Dorsch and Melinda and Claren Yuill; Lila Procter and Ben; Connie Shiell, Christopher, and Andrea; Rev. Mary Jane Hobden and Stephen; Andrea Stevenson, Mathew, Tyler and Spencer; Kim Higgins and Laura; Linda Hess and Andrew; Sherri Sippel, Christie, Scott and Daniel. Their topic was "Motherhood". The Belgrave Women's Institute will be holding its May meeting at the East Wawanosh Public School on Tuesday, May 21 at 8 p.m. The guest speakers for the evening will be John and Jesse Davidson. Donations at the door will be for genetic research. There will be door prizes. Everyone is welcome to attend. Dr. and Mrs. Ray Nicholson, Victoria and Alexander of Elmira visited on Sunday, May 12 for Mother's Day. Elaine Winter and Olive Bolt visited recently with Mr. and Mrs. Glen Nixon, Tyler and Corey of Cambridge. Randy Nixon of Brampton, Dan, Marjorie, Jason and Adam McBurney, Steven, Patti, Michele and Kyle Nixon and Olive Bolt of Belgrave spent Mother's Day at the home of Elaine Winter of Formosa. Clarence and 'Mildred Yuill visited last Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Elliott and family of Ailsa Craig. On Mother's Day Clarence and Mildred Yuill dined at the Golden Lantern for Mother's Day. Weekend visitors with Laura Johnston and Bob and Jane Grasby were Mr. and Mrs. George Johnston, Tara and Erin of Ilderton and Mr. and Mrs. Garry Leitch and Jeff of London. Dale and Colleen Lamont of London visited with Mr. and Mrs. Jim Lamont. Later all enjoyed Mother's Day supper at the home of Mike, Donelda Cottrill and family. On Saturday, May 11 Irene Lamont and Donelda Cottrill visited Winnie Vincent at the home of Ralph and Amy McCrea of Blyth. Neil, Nancy and girls visited on Mother's Day with Agnes Bieman. Douglas Thompson of Toronto, Danny Thompson of Vancouver, Mrs. Vera Johnston of Calgary and Mrs. Maxine Downen of Michigan attended the funeral of Bernice Thompson of Goderich. Doug and Danny are nephews of Bernice Thompson. Danny Thompson of Vancouver spent a few days with his grandmother, Ruth Johnston. Winners were: high lady, Mary Taylor; second high lady, Doris Walden; lone hands, Lois Chamney; low lady, Jean Pattison; high man, Jim Coultes; second high man, Helen Martin (playing as a man); lone hands, Jack Taylor; low man, Betty Morin (playing as a man). There will be euchre again next Wednesday, May 15 at 8 p.m. Everyone is welcome. There were 11 tables of shoot in play on Friday, May 10 at the Community Centre. Having a look While waiting for a turn in the line for dinner at the annual Maitland Conservation Foundation fundraising auction and banquet, people took the opportunity to peruse the items on display at the silent auction table. The annual event raises money for the Wawanosh Nature Centre, an educational facility located in East Wawanosh. The Sparks and Brownies met at their regular time on Thursday, May 9 at the East Wawanosh Public School. The girls enjoyed podging yogurt containers in which they planted pansies. These were made for Mother's Day. Bridgette Kcltington was tested for her athlete's and artist's badge. This brought the evening to a close. The girls will meet again on may 16.
