By Helen Dobson Brussels Legion Auxiliary celebrated its 50th birthday Friday evening by entertaining the comrades from the zone, Mitchell, Seaforth, Blyth, Clinton, Hensall, Howick, Exeter, Lucknow, Goderich and Wingharn. Each auxiliary supplied items for the program and entertainment. There were amusing stories, fashion show, plays, skit and hat show. Elizabeth Sholdice acted as chairperson for the evening. Canvan Cloggers entertained with a couple of lively numbers as well. Donald Dunbar, secretary of the. legion, acting on behalf of the legion, presented the auxiliary president Carol Thornton with a lovely 50th commemorative plate, which will be proudly placed in the legion. Zone Commander Eva Brown, on behalf of the Provincial President Rose Green, also presented a commemorative certificate. Throughout the evening many door prizes were given out. Helen Dobson, immediate past president, gave a history of the auxiliary. Over the past 50 years, there have been 21 past presidents,. three served the second time round. Past Presidents present, were each presented with a long stem rose — Mary Lowe, Pat Shaw, Helen Dobson, Doreen Rutledge, Mabel Willis, Jean Bridge and Jean Little, also Zone Commander Eva Brown and Deputy Zone Commander Olive Little. There were two members present that had 50 years of dedicated service, Kathlyn Rutledge and Verna Tunney, who were also remembered with a gift.
