His topic was ''One Thing". Mr. MacEachem pointed out that good works and earthly possessions are not enough for salvation. One must be born again and receive the Holy Spirit, the gift of God, for those who will give up their own life and follow Christ. Kathy Procter was worship leader, Andrea Hiller played for the offertory and Mervin Lichy led the singing. The Ladies' Fellowship will meet on Tuesday, April 16 for the monthly meeting. Friday evening a talent auction and silent auction will be held at the church. Proceeds will go to the mission fund. Thought of the week: Unity from believers comes from unity with Christ. By Janice Becker It is never to late to enter the competition, to strive for gold and attain that goal. Kathy Hunt of Ethel is just such a person as she took up competitive speed skating at the age of 37 and now, at 42, holds all records in the 35 to 50 Masters age group at the, North American level. Hunt travelled to Red Deer, Alberta for the Canadian champi- onships, March 29 to 31 and the North American championships, April 5-7. On her stride for the North American competition, Hunt cap- tured gold in 500 metre, 777 metre, 1,000 metre and 1,500 metre races. Not only did her record-breaking times put her in the record books for the North American title, but the Canadian as well for the 40 to 49 age group. (Different countries categorize ages differently.) At the Canadian championships, a week earlier, Hunt earned third in the Serior (over 18) 500 metre, 1,000 metre and 3,000, allowing her to place third overall. "The trip was very successful and fun," she says. "I received many comments from the other skaters about how they were inspired to Blyth Thunder tie 2 in Easter tournament Blyth Thunder, the local women's hockey team competed over the Easter weekend in a tournament in Brampton. On Good Friday the team took on the players from the University of New Brunswick and skated to a 1-1 tie. Missy Bieman scored the lone Blyth marker. On Saturday the team faced off against Belleville and again, led by Bieman and her sister Marci, who earned the assist, came away with a 1-1 tie. _ Sunday, in a tough contest against Windsor the girls were shut out by a close 2-0 score. Windsor went on to finish in the top spot for the Senior Ladies C hockey league. More than 90 per cent of infants observed were restrained in some way. However, just over one-third were restrained correctly in a rear facing safety seat. Hunt's 13-year-old daughter also competed in the Canadian champi- ons, but up against 26 very tough second-year skaters, was unable to place, though she did skate four personal-best times, says Hunt. "It bodes well for next year. She is a tough kid who responds well under pressure." Next on the agenda for Hunt is a little rest and relaxation before beginning a different summer train- ing regiment. "I would like to attend the trials for the Canadian National team next year," she says. Thirty-two skaters are selected from time trials to compete in a full event for the national team, and though not eligi- ble to be a member of the squad, Hunt hopes to skate fast enough to attain a Canadian ranking. Golden Kathy Hunt of Ethel, was in fine form when she captured four gold medals at the recent North American Speed Skating Championships in Red Deer, Alberta.
