Majestic WI members get pins
The Majestic Women's Institute
started its meeting on April 10 with
a potluck lunch at the Brussels
Library. Following the lunch,
President Ruth Sauve opened the
meeting with a poem on April.
Peggy Keffer introduced the
guest speaker, Rev. Cathrine
Campbell. She spoke on informa-
tion she had discovered about the
Women's Institute, including how
some countries survive with the
help of Coins For Friendship. She
stressed that in small towns, people
care and are not always out for
gossip. Education is up to the
whole town, not just the family, in
raising a child, and that it is very
important even though it is long
term.
Melody White thanked Rev.
Campbell for her informative
speech.
Business arising from the
meeting was! a birthday party on
Dec. 10 at 2 p.m. in Huronlea, May
8 courses being held in Fordwich,
Environmental allergies speaker at
Huronlea on May 9 at 7:30.
Roll call was answered by
revealing Sunshine Sisters.

installed the office for 1996-97, as

Agla compared the Women's
Institute to a book and its different
sections.
The Area convention will hold
the 100th Anniversary this fall
instead of waiting until the next
fall. A workshop will be held on
June 10 at Wellington Place for
Mtcroman.

passing out pins to members who
have hit milestones in the branch.

There was a good attendance at
the March meeting of the B.M.&G.
Diabetic Project group.
Nelva Scott presided and
introduced Yvonne Kitchen RN,
who agreed on very short notice, to
be guest speaker, due to the sudden
illness of the scheduled guest. She
told of changes in medical care and
spoke of the need for more
emphasis on education and preven-
tion. She also discussed keeping
people ambulatory rather than long
hospital care.
Regarding diabetics, she talked

Leona Armstrong gave the
programme-co-ordinator's report.
A reminder was given about the
Casserole Supper and Card Party
on April 29 for the Cancer Society.
The County Rally will be held on
Sept. 30 at Londesboro.
The District quilt will be put in at
Ruth Sauve's on April 22.
A programme-Co-ordinator's
meeting will be held on April 22 at
1 p.m. at the Brussels Library.
Majestic will be hosting the District
Annual on May 14 at the
Mennonite Church.
Before closing the meeting,
Happy Birthday was sung to the
members with a birthday this
month. The next meeting will be
held on May 8 at 2 p.m.
on prevention of complications
through diet, good nutrition,
exercise and education.
Huron-Perth, she said, has the
highest rate of toe amputation of all
Ontario. There is hope that a new
medication will prevent diabetes in
people at risk.
A video on diet and nutrition was
shown. Announcements of up-
coming events and the treasurer's
report was given.
April 20 at 7:30 p.m. is the next
regular meeting.
This past Sunday the morning
service held at Brussels United
Church took as its theme, "Make
Music to our God". The occasion
was the dedication of the newly-
installed church organ in memory
of Barbara (Barb) McCutcheon, a
longtime choir, UCW and very
active member of our congregation.
There was a large attendance at
the service, which included George
McCutcheon, Pauline and Richard
Clarke, Vonne and David Brister,
their families, relatives and friends.
The organ and piano prelude was
played by Mary Bryans and Alice
Brothers.
Richard Clarke represented the
family at the dedication. This was
followed by "A Music Cele-
bration". Ken Cowan, former
organist of the Brussels United
played two selections, 0 Precious
Love and Jesu, Joy of Man's
Desiring. There were two choral
anthems God is So Wonderful and
Gonna Climb The Highest
Mountain directed by Alice
Brothers.
A quartet of Betty Campbell,
Joyce Jacklin, John Lowe and Rev.
Cam McMillan sang I'll Fly Away.
The final selection I Walked Today
Where Jesus Walked was sung by
Rev. Cam McMillan, accompanied
by Karen Cardiff, organist at Ethel
United.
The offertory selection Bless This
House was a duet with Betty
Campbell at the organ and Alice
Brothers as pianist.

The hymns sang during the

Thee, Come Let Us Sing of a
Wonderful Love concluding with
Mine Eyes Have Seen The Glory of
the coming of the Lord all played
by Betty Campbell, church organist
and Alice Brothers, church pianist.
The new electronic organ was
built by the Eminent Organ
Company, the largest organ
manufacturer in the Netherlands. It
is a three-manual organ, and has 36
stops plus an arrangement of seven
pre-set stops. It was installed by
Bob Gray Music of Waterloo.
Rev. Cam McMillan said, "The
congregation is most grateful to
George McCutcheon, Pauline and
Vonne for this generous donation
to Brussels United Church. It is
most fitting that Barb be
remembered through music each
time this organ donated in her
memory is played.
