While some employment positions would become redundant, others would be expanded at an increased salary thus eliminating any saving. Other costs would be incurred under either amalgamation or restructur- ing, such as consolidation of existing Agreements, Official Plans, Zoning Policies, bylaws, legal costs, consulting fees, assumption of costs for services not now part of the municipal budget (i.e. policing), and other unforeseen expenditures, all of which would increase as departments take on added responsibilities. Most of those attending the meeting felt that rather than be in a hurry to amalgamate all efforts should be put forth by the township and its neighbours to discuss in full ways of sharing in order to eliminate duplication of services, equipment and whatever else is a common bond. If the deire of the residents of a municipality is not to amalgamate or enter into restructuring, all must work together. The province has indicated that municipalities will not be forced into this against their will, but it must he shown that they will take the initiative to cut expenditures. To this end, the Council of the Township of Hullett welcomes suggestions from the residents as to the direction they see their community evolving in the future.
